Good morning, folks!
Our internet is down this morning which means we cannot accept credit card payments or answer the phones. Just like every year, refundable tax credits EIC and ATCT delayed to March 2 and IRS announces where’s my refund tool online available beginning Feb 16.

The credits can be worth thousands to eligible filers.

Tax Tip – Filing Season Update
Important Updates for 2025 tax year in 2026 and beyond

We have a few tax planning strategies to consider under these new rules. Here is a breakdown of current changes and things to look for:

Effective now and for tax year 2025

• CHILD TAX CREDIT INCREASED FROM $2,000 TO $2,200

• DEPENDENT CARE CREDIT INCREASED FROM 35% TO 50% OF QUALIFYING EXPENSES

• ADOPTION CREDIT INCREASED FROM $16,810 TO $17,280 AND REFUNDABLE PORTION UP FROM ZERO TO $5,000

• SALT CAP INCREASED FROM $20,000 (MFJ) TO $40,000 SO HIGH-INCOME EARNERS AND OTHERS PAYING HIGH AMOUNT OF LOCAL TAXES MAY BE ABLE TO ITEMIZE DEDUCTIONS AGAIN

• NEW INCREASED STANDARD DEDUCTION FOR THOSE 65 AND OLDER – ADD $6,000 EACH

• NO INCOME TAX ON OVERTIME PAY
• NO INCOME TAX ON TIPS

Effective Jan 1, 2026, for tax year 2026

• New charitable deduction up to $2,000 (MFJ) even if you do not itemize deductions
