After a rocky Q1, markets rebounded sharply in the second quarter. A ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran in April helped calm oil prices and volatility. U.S. stocks climbed 15.52%, while bonds held relatively steady.

Beyond the headlines, economic resilience continued. Manufacturing expanded, services grew for two full years, and employment remained solid. Inflation eased sharply, bringing the trailing twelve-month figure to 3.5%.

The broader lesson remains familiar: markets move quickly on headlines, but a well-constructed plan built around your goals and time horizon is designed to absorb disruption. If recent events have prompted questions about your plan, let's review it together.

A great estate plan moves both money and values.

Through wills, trusts, and thoughtful instructions, you can communicate what matters most to your family and how you want your wealth to reflect your priorities. Structure creates clarity around your vision for the next generation. It transforms good intentions into a documented plan that endures.

When estate planning is paired with tax strategy and investment management, your legacy a lasting expression of what you stood for.

RSUs, ISOs, NQSOs, and ESPPs. Many executives navigate these separately, missing the opportunity to coordinate them into a unified strategy. RSUs create immediate ordinary income and withholding. ISOs offer long-term capital gains potential but carry AMT complexity. ESPPs provide built-in discounts with holding period benefits.

When mapped into one plan alongside your overall tax strategy, bonus structures, and investment allocation, equity compensation becomes a powerful tool for building wealth efficiently. That's where planning creates value.

Concentrated Stock Position: How to Reduce the Risk - WealthCrossing 08/27/2026

Your RSUs vested. Your options are in the money. That also means a concentrated stock position, and a bigger tax question than you had last year.

Selling everything at once isn't always the answer, and neither is doing nothing. In our latest blog, we walk through 10b5-1 plans, exchange funds, direct indexing, and strategic gifting—four ways executives can cut concentration risk in a tax-efficient way. https://wealth-crossing.com/reducing-concentrated-stock-position-risk/

The ESPP discount is real value from day one, and look-back provisions can enhance it further. But tax outcomes depend significantly on how long you hold shares.

Hold for at least one year after purchase and two years after the offering date for a qualifying disposition: the discount is ordinary income, the remainder is a long-term capital gain. Sell earlier and a greater portion becomes ordinary income.

The bigger issue for many executives: concentration. Participating in an ESPP while holding RSUs, ISOs, and NQSOs compounds exposure to a single stock. A disciplined approach to selling ESPP shares and redeploying proceeds prevents this overlap.

Concentrated in your employer's stock? You're taking a risk you may not be paid to take.

When a significant portion of your wealth is tied to one company, you've lost the protective benefits of diversification. A market downturn, industry shift, or company-specific event can quickly erode years of wealth building.

Whether through RSUs, ISOs, or accumulated stock purchases, executives often end up overweight in employer shares without a deliberate plan to reduce concentration. Building a strategy to gradually diversify protects your financial security without requiring you to liquidate everything at once.

Let's talk about your concentration.

When RSUs vest, the full value becomes ordinary income, and shares are automatically withheld for taxes. You keep the remainder. If you later sell above the vesting price, that gain is taxed as capital gains.

Key planning question: Do multiple vesting events land in the same tax year? If yes, model the impact on your tax bracket before vesting dates arrive and adjust estimated payments. If vesting is spread across years, decide how to handle proceeds. Are you rebalancing systematically or letting employer stock accumulate?

Your equity compensation is part of your pay. It deserves the same planning as the rest of your portfolio.

Too many executives treat equity compensation as a separate piece, disconnected from their overall financial strategy. But RSUs, ISOs, NQSOs, and ESPPs all carry significant tax implications and affect your wealth in different ways.

When equity becomes a material portion of your income and net worth, it needs to be coordinated with your investment allocation, tax strategy, and financial goals. That's where the real value emerges.
