Even before I was a location scout, one of my favorite pastimes was to figure out where in the world places were located in images that have no identification. Sometimes, when there is identification, I don't look, and use it as an additional puzzle for myself.
While I have traveled extensively, of particular gratification is when I can identify a location of a place I have never been. This BDO commercial beckoned me. In the commercial, they mention Latin America, though the architecture was evident. I immediately thought Mexico City, a city I'd love to visit one day. I found the spot: Calle de Tecuba in front of the Museo Nacional de Arte.
I can't say these tests help me in my work, but trying to match up what's in the mind's eye of the creatives with what I can find is a joyous test in itself.
Good sport, try in sometime.

I estimate that in my years, to this point, as a filming location manager, I have recycled 8 tons of recyclable material from set and facilitated the donation of 1 ton of leftover crew food to fire stations and feeding programs.

Part of my castle scout was to find areas of stone that can be used for digital compositing. I found these within 1/2 mile radius.

I love my work. Last weekend I was tasked with finding castle like elements. What a wonderful way to spend beautiful days among some of Richmond's architectural gems.
