On September 11, 2001, Welles Crowther was just 24 years old when he found himself in the South Tower.

Wearing the red bandana he had carried with him since he was a child, Welles covered his face from the smoke and went back into the tower to help others find their way to safety.

He made several trips back upstairs, leading people toward the exits. Many who survived that day would later remember a man with a red bandana who helped them when they needed it most.

Welles never made it out.

His story is a powerful reminder of the courage, kindness, and selflessness shown by so many that day.

Today, we remember Welles and all those whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001.

Never forgotten.
