In 2026, you can give up to $19,000 per person to as many people as you want without paying taxes or even reporting the gift to the IRS.

The Key Limits
Annual Exclusion: $19,000 per recipient.

Married Couples: Can "gift split" to give $38,000 per recipient tax-free.

Lifetime Exemption: Even if you exceed the annual limit, you won't owe taxes until you give away more than $15 million over your lifetime.

However, you must file a gift tax return (Form 709) for any gift over the annual limit to track it against this lifetime total.

Special Exceptions
The following do not count toward your limits and are always tax-free if paid correctly:

Tuition: Must be paid directly to the educational institution.

Medical Expenses: Must be paid directly to the healthcare provider.

Spouse: Gifts to a spouse who is a U.S. citizen are generally unlimited.

FAQ: Does my firm really need a 3-way reconciliation every month?

The answer is yes.

A standard bank reconciliation only catches bank errors. A 3-way reconciliation ensures your bank balance, book balance, and individual client ledgers match perfectly. This is your best defense against a bar audit. 🛡️

⚖️ When most people think of accounting, they think of tax season. But for law firms and regulated businesses, the stakes are much higher than just a refund.

My 30+ years in the industry have taught me one thing: Financial management is a compliance issue. > Whether it’s IOLTA management or ensuring your books are audit-ready, a standard bookkeeper isn’t always enough. You need someone who understands the legal implications behind the numbers.

That’s why I’m excited to share that I am beginning my Master of Science in Compliance Law this May! 🎓 I’m committed to providing my clients with elite-level protection by staying at the cutting edge of regulatory law.

Is your firm currently "audit-ready," or just "tax-ready"? Let’s get your books secured. 📂
