Labor Day is all about celebrating the workforce, and the best way to honor hard work is to take a real break from it. So to celebrate, our team is fully committing to the cause by penciling some cat naps into our schedules this weekend.

A quick heads-up: The office is closed on Monday, September 7th. We will be back on Tuesday, September 8th — recharged, refreshed, and ready to get to work.

We hope you have a long weekend full of good food, good company, and zero emails!

As we settle into September and the rhythms of a new season, it is a natural time to step back and ask a bigger question: What are we actually building toward?

For many business owners, the first answer that comes to mind is success. But Albert Einstein's perspective challenges us to go a little deeper. Success, he suggests, is not the goal itself. It tends to follow when we focus on something more meaningful: the value we create for others.

As you move through this month, we would love to hear from you: In your business or your work, what is one way you are focused on creating real value for the people you serve? Share it in the comments. We would love to hear your perspective!

September is home to some truly remarkable moments in history. From breakthroughs in medicine to the furthest reaches of space, these are the kinds of milestones that remind us of what becomes possible when human ingenuity, courage, and determination come together.

Here are three we are celebrating this month:

🫀 September 2, 1952 - At the University of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota surgical team (Drs. F. John Lewis, C. Walton Lillehei, Mansur Taufic, and Richard Varco) performed the first successful open-heart surgery using a technique called hypothermia, often called “code chill” or “code cool,” to temporarily stop the heart's blood flow.

🚀 September 5, 1977 - NASA launched the Voyager 1 spacecraft, which has since become the most distant human-made object ever to travel through space. Onboard is the Golden Record, a carefully assembled message from Earth intended for any extraterrestrial life that may find it.

🏗️ September 30, 1935 - In the middle of the Great Depression, construction on the Hoover Dam commenced, a monumental feat of engineering that was finished two years ahead of schedule.
These moments continue to inspire us to think bigger, reach further, and never underestimate what is possible.

Which of these September milestones resonates with you the most? Drop a comment and let us know!

Today, our team wanted to share some key information about a life insurance policy issue we’ve seen over the years: insufficient coverage. Many people establish life insurance policies, then ignore them for years — even though their income has increased, and they’ve assumed greater financial responsibilities (such as getting married, having children, or taking on a mortgage).

Life insurance is designed to replace your income. If your paycheck supports your household, regardless of what that looks like, your coverage should reflect that responsibility. Swipe for key details on how to estimate your current life insurance needs and when it makes sense to review your policies.

If it’s been a while since you last reviewed your coverage, or if your income has changed significantly since we last spoke, our team would be happy to help you take a closer look and ensure everything still aligns with your current situation.

Many small business owners assume offering a 401(k) plan is too costly or complicated, but that perception does not always reflect today’s reality.

The good news is that 401(k) plans are often more flexible and accessible than expected, especially with available tax advantages and modern solutions that simplify administration.

Eligible businesses may benefit from tax credits and deductions that help offset startup and administrative costs, and plan designs can be tailored to fit your budget, with optional employer contributions.

If you have been holding off due to concerns about cost or complexity, it may be time to take another look. Contact us to learn how offering a 401(k) plan can be a practical and valuable addition to your business.

Small changes can lead to big results, especially when it comes to retirement plan participation. Automatic enrollment remains one of the most effective ways to help employees start saving earlier and more consistently. By removing the need to “opt in,” employers can reduce hesitation and make retirement planning a natural part of the onboarding experience.

In fact, recent studies show that plans with automatic enrollment can reach participation rates as high as 94%, compared to just 67% for plans without it. If you are considering adding or enhancing automatic enrollment, swipe through for some best practices to keep in mind.

Automatic enrollment is more than just a feature. It is a strategic approach to removing barriers, increasing participation, and supporting long-term financial wellness. Contact us if you have any questions about implementing or improving automatic enrollment within your retirement plan.
