📌 When should parents actually start thinking about college?

Earlier than you think, and earlier than your high school will tell you.

In this clip, college expert Jonathan West with College Aid Pro | College Planning + Financial Aid breaks down why most families don’t start planning until the high school’s guidance office puts it on their radar (usually end of sophomore year or start of junior year). By then, you’re playing catch-up.

His advice: parents should start freshman or sophomore year. No need to get your teenager involved just yet. Let them enjoy high school. This is a “parents get ahead of it” strategy, not a “put pressure on your kid” strategy.

Spoiler: it doesn’t matter which type of aid you get. It all reduces the bill the same way.

What generation had it financially worse? We find that the real millennial money gap isn’t with boomers. It’s with each other.

Yes, student debt delayed homeownership, savings, and marriage in ways boomers never dealt with. But, asset growth and wage gains have helped millennials in ways past generations didn’t get.

The bigger story might be inside our own generation. Top-earning millennials are likely outpacing where top boomers were at our age. The bottom earners?

Possibly struggling more than their boomer counterparts ever did.
