For all our Florida Business Owners, this is a reminder of the minimum wage increase starting soon! Be sure that if you had any employees set at the previous minimum wage rate, that you get that rate adjusted to reflect the new minimum. This was the final scheduled step of the gradual wage increases approved by voters in a 2020 constitutional amendment. Beginning in 2027, annual adjustments will be tied directly to inflation instead of flat $1.00 yearly bumps.

The Big Beautiful Bill rolled out a few new deductions, one of those is the deduction on car loan interest. For the 2026 tax year, you can deduct up to $10,000 of interest paid on a qualifying car loan. But what qualifies the loan? Well a few things must meet the criteria:

🚗 The Loan must originate after 12/31/24 and be secured by a first lien on the vehicle. Auto leases do not qualify.

🚙 The Vehicle must have undergone its final assembly in the United States. To check the vehicles eligibility for this, the IRS encourages you to use the NHTSA Vin Decoder.

🚗 The Vehicle must be new (not used), be under 14,000 pounds, and be for personal use (not business use).

If your new vehicle meets all the requirements, you will be able to take the total amount of interest you pay on that loan in 2026 (up to $10,000), as a deduction on your 2026 tax return. But keep in mind, like most credits and deductions, this deduction has a phaseout limit. For single filers, the deduction begins to phase out when your Modified Adjusted Gross Income exceeds $100,000 and it completely disappears at $150,000. For Married Joint Filers, the deduction begins to phase out when your Modified Adjusted Gross Income exceeds $200,000 and it disappears completely at $250,000.

So when tax time comes around next year, if you purchased and financed a qualifying vehicle, be sure to have the following information handy for us: VIN Number, Loan Origination Date, Outstanding Balance as of 12/31/26, and Total Interest paid in 2026.

Happy Tax Day everyone! To our clients who have already filed with us for the year, we thank you for your continued loyalty & business and can’t wait to see you next year. To our clients who are on extension, don’t worry, we will still be in office, working tirelessly to get you finalized as soon as possible. Don’t forget, an extension gives you extra time to file your taxes, not extra time to pay your taxes. The IRS can start adding on interest & penalties for everyday you go past 4/15 if you have a balance due, so it’s very important to make sure you get us your documents if you think you may owe.

The tax deadline is right around the corner! If you are a current client of ours and you haven’t filed yet, we will place you on extension. But remember, that extension is only an extension to file, not an extension on any tax owed. So if you think you may have a balance due, be sure to get us your documents as soon as possible so you can avoid additional penalties & fees from the IRS. If you have your documents ready, please either drop them by the office or send them to us digitally so we can get you filed asap 👍🏻
