Annuities are a conservative way to help save towards retirement. They are like the reliable Toyota in your garage. Stocks is that fancy sports car you like to drive. If the sport car breaks down at least you know you have the Toyota as back up. They should be part of everyone's savings plan as a conservative approach. You never know when your 401K snowball will hit a tree and break. Good read for everyone...even you younger investors.

For decades, annuities tended to enter the financial planning conversation late, often framed primarily as retirement income solutions.

Checks being sent

Some Obamacare recipients are getting refund checks sent to them. Not everyone will get this check (if you didn't get a subsidy you are suppose to get this check). If you get this check go ahead and cash it. It's a real check from the US Treasury and not some scam. It equates to around $500 a person on the plan. Some on Medicare will get a $90 payment also.

If you are on extension for your taxes you only have 10 days left. If you owe the IRS money they will add 5% each month of the amount owed. Best to get filed to prevent that nasty 5% penalty, and just work out a simple payment plan with the IRS (which we pretty much do for free for you). IRS isn't as nice about waiving penalties anymore

If you haven't voted for us as your favorite tax service, please take less than a minute to do so. We would like to get on the radar with the local newspaper. We don't advertise with them, so they won't want us to do well....but who knows. My old firm (Buelow Financial) use to have to advertise like crazy with the Sun in order to win. The link is below

Don't forget about Dawn and Jen with your Auto and Home Insurance needs. Doesn't hurt to ask for a quote to see what deals are out there.

Some year end tax planning tips..which I'm sure you already know.

Fill up your 12% tax bucket if there is room in it with rolling over some taxable deferred income to a Roth. Or selling a long-term capital asset and booking some if not all of the gain tax-free. Then turning around and buying it back the next day. Works well with stocks.

Be ready to add to an HSA or IRA when tax time comes. In some cases you can save 100% or more of the contribution in taxes. We don't know until you are ready to file.

Keep track of charitables. As we can deduct $1000 of charities for each taxpayer now. Anything larger look to have your IRA do the charitable deduction for you.

Remember you need about 35K in itemized expenses if your married. So don't bother with medical, real estate taxes, mortgage interest if you are not close to that number. 18K if you file single. It is only what you beat the standard deduction by is what you save at your tax level.

Sad we live in a country where you save, sacrifice, work hard your whole life just to potentially lose it all to the most greediness industry in the world. One single uninsured medical event or nursing home stay could evaporate your life savings or estate. If medicare or insurance was never involved we wouldn't be having this issue. Insurance leads to rising costs of whatever is being insured. We are forced to have it or potentially lose everything and maybe declare bankruptcy. Lawyers like it...keeps them busy.
They also like setting up these Medicaid Trusts. We understand the cost to be around 10K. Look into setting one up, and you have to do it early. Otherwise a greedy nursing home gets your money and not your family. Here is a seminar in Naples. Try and learn what you can about them. We also like using the power of tax-deferral of a fixed annuity as self-insurance planning for potential LTC needs. If you don't need it, at least you didn't waste your money on LTC insurance.

6.25% for 5 years fixed!

Rates will actually come down after October 5th. Our best rate will be 6.10% for 5 years fixed CD/annuity. Right now we have a 6.25% 5 year fixed. You can lock in and have 60 days to fund it. If you locked into the higher rate last month, you only have around 30 days left to fund it.

If you are on extension for your taxes you only have 2 weeks left. If you owe the IRS money they will add 5% each month of the amount owed. Best to get filed to prevent that nasty 5% penalty, and just work out a simple payment plan with the IRS (which we pretty much do for free for you). IRS isn't as nice about waiving penalties anymore

10.75% S&P 500 Indexed Rate !

We just got a great rate update from one of Dawn's Fixed Indexed Annuities.

Basically if the S&P 500 increases you get the increase to a maximum interest rate of 10.75%
If the S&P 500 goes down you basically just get zero interest, but you don't lose anything you put in, and any prior interest credited to your account

Unlike others...this rate cannot not come down for term you select on the annuity. Other companies may reduce the rates during the term.

A great way to protect what you have with potentially higher returns than current fixed interest rates out there.

Perfect for IRA rollovers, 401K rollover, etc.

Dawn's Fixed Rate is 6.25% for 5 years and 6.55% for 7. This particular one we recommend taking the interest monthly and getting yield from a high-yield savings account. This way your actual APY will be higher.

There are sooooo many benefits you get from Fixed and Indexed annuities that you DO NOT get from other investments.

Tax Deferral (you control when you want to pay the taxes. So by not including the interest annually it may help with with certain tax deductions, credits, and the dreaded IRMAA from Medicare

Probate Free. Greedy lawyers can't get 4-10% of it during probate. It goes directly to your beneficiaries. Kinda like having a mini-trust without paying for setting a trust up.

No fees to you. Just a surrender period. So basically it has to be for money you don't plan on using for 3-7 years. Depending on the term you choose. They do allow for 10% annual withdrawal with no surrender charges.

They just pay a small commission to the agent (usually 1.5%-4%). You aren't paying 1-2% ANUALLY to someone to manage your money (add that savings in and your net yield goes up!)

Long Term Care Planning. You can self-insure. After you accumulate a good amount of tax-deferred interest you can eventually roll it over to a Long-Term-Care Annuity. Then the annuity will pay some costs for your care. Then the whole thing will be tax-free...even the interest. A low cost, low-risk way to provide some funding towards potential LTC.

Creditor Protection. Did you know Florida and Texas are only the few states that have VERY STRONG creditor protection for annuities. Do you notice almost every other commercial on television is a law firm trying to get you to sue. You can place a bulk of your assets into annuities to provide some insurance protection to your assets...without paying for an insurance policy. But you have to have them in place before something occurs.

Here is a direct quotation from Florida’s state statute 222.14:

“Exemption of cash surrender value of life insurance policies and annuity contracts from legal process. The cash surrender values of life insurance policies issued upon the lives of citizens or residents of the state and the proceeds of annuity contracts issued to citizens or residents of the state, upon whatever form, shall not in any case be liable to attachment, garnishment, or legal process in favor of any creditor of the person whose life is so insured or of any creditor of the person who is the beneficiary of such annuity contract, unless the insurance policy or annuity contract was effected for the benefit of such creditor.”

Safety. These are protected by the industry and by the states that allow them to be sold. They are considered the "CDs" of the insurance industry. However most insurance companies are better capitalized then banks right now. No stock market risks. No bond market risks. You can sleep at night...and so can we

That is why we like them, and that is why we try and educate our client's about them. Years ago when rates were low, they were not a very favorable investment. Just like CDs. Rates are rising and annuities are having record years.

So many other benefits, but my fingers are getting tired from typing.

Call if you want more information.

And thanks again for being a valued client of ours!!

We are very surprised to see many other tax outfits not take the very valuable QBI deduction for business owners. For some reason they don't know about it or they just simply aren't using it correctly. There is strategy with this deduction. You want more income to flow to the bottom line. This way you can take full advantage of the 20% reduction of income not to be taxed. So if you are the sole owner of an S corporation you would want to pay yourself less in wages, so more income goes to the bottom line and gets the QBI deduction. We see S owners pay themselves way too much and we try to correct them about this. Anyways enough blabbing and more fun educational reading.

The Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction allows eligible self-employed individuals and pass-through business owners to deduct up to 20% of their net business income on their personal federal tax returns.Who QualifiesBusiness Types: Sole proprietors, single-member or multi-member LLCs, partnerships, and S corporations.Excluded Entities: C corporations and income earned as a W-2 employee do not qualify.Permanence: Made permanent by legislation, the deduction is available regardless of whether you take the standard deduction or itemize. How the Deduction WorksBasic Calculation: You can typically deduct 20% of your net Qualified Business Income (QBI), plus 20% of qualified REIT dividends and publicly traded partnership (PTP) income.Income Thresholds: For 2026, if your total taxable income is below $201,750 for single filers or $403,500 for married couples filing jointly, you get the full 20%

People wonder what is the difference with a CPA and an EA with taxes. CPA specialize in accounting, auditing, and taxes. An EA specializes ONLY with taxes. They don't audit or do accounting. That is why we don't provide accounting for our clients. We can recommend independent bookkeepers/payroll specialist, etc, and they send us the necessary paperwork for your taxes. EAs are federally licensed by the Department of Treasury while CPAs are licensed in their state. EAs sole focus is taxes while some CPAs don't know much about taxes at all. A good pro may cost you $10-15K in your lifetime, but will probably save you $200-$400K or more in taxes. Find a good one and keep him/her....may be one of your best investments you make!

We had a new client come in yesterday. The person they were using in Sarasota was charging $1900 for their S Corp and personal returns...and that person didn't file the past few years, and has pretty much "ghosted" the client. You shouldn't allow someone you are paying to treat you like that!

Our average rate for S Corps ranges from $350-$650, and personal ranges from $185-$385 (for about 80% of our clients). We know everything and everyone is expensive now, but we continue to remain reasonable. We are like the Arizona Ice Tea of Taxes. We keep our quality high and prices reasonable. We don't use the "inflation" excuse to crank up our fees.

Anyways... if you are extension, your corporate is due in 2 weeks, and your personal one due on October 15th. Don't be late of face high IRS penalties. See less
