A portfolio can tell you a lot.

But it can't tell you:

- What you want retirement to look like.
- When you want to stop working.
- How taxes could affect your income.
- What you want to leave behind.
- Or what you want your money to make possible along the way.

That's where planning comes in.

A good financial plan shouldn't just answer, "How are my investments doing?"

It should help answer, "Am I prepared for where I'm going?"

A financial plan brings all the pieces together — investments, income, taxes, retirement, estate planning, family and the goals that are uniquely yours — to build the bigger picture: the life you want to live.

Mention "long-term care" and a lot of people immediately think:

Insurance.

But that's only one piece of a much larger conversation.

A long-term care plan should consider questions like:

Where would you want to receive care?

Who would help make decisions?

Would family be involved?

What resources could be available?

How might care affect your spouse or children?

And yes, does insurance have a role?

The mistake isn't necessarily choosing one strategy over another.

It's waiting until care is needed to start figuring it out.

Here's an assumption worth questioning:

Will your retirement spending really increase by the exact same percentage every single year?

Many financial projections assume expenses rise steadily with inflation.

Real life isn't always that tidy.

Some households may spend relatively consistently for periods of time. Certain years bring larger increases. And spending patterns can change significantly as retirement progresses.

Why does that matter?
Because assumptions affect the plan.

If your projections consistently overstate what you'll actually need, you could potentially spend years being more cautious than necessary.

That doesn't just mean "go spend the money."

It means your retirement plan should reflect your actual life, not simply a default assumption.

When was the last time you revisited the assumptions behind your retirement plan?

Some things have changed around here.

New name.
New firm.
New affiliation.
New office.

But some of the most important things haven't changed at all.

The people. The relationships. The conversations. And the responsibility we feel to the families we serve.

Paradigm Shift Partners gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation with greater independence, new resources and a bigger vision for what the client experience can become.

We're excited about where we're going.

And even more grateful for the people coming with us.

15 years of marriage deserves some celebration!

Today we're celebrating Walter and his wife, Natalie, on their 15th wedding anniversary. Behind every goal, milestone, and chapter of life are the people who make it all more meaningful.

Happy anniversary to the two of them, and cheers to the years ahead!

"Can I afford to retire?"

Important question.

But we'd argue it shouldn't always be the first one.

Try this instead:

What do you want retirement to look like?

Because "retirement" can mean a lot of things.

Selling the company and never working another day.

Consulting three days a week.

Traveling.

Starting something new.

Moving closer to family.

Volunteering.

Finally having time for the things that always came second.

Before you determine what the next chapter costs, it helps to know what you're actually trying to build.

Then the financial planning can support the life instead of defining it.

A new season is a good reminder that change can be a pretty great thing.

New routines. New priorities. New plans. Maybe even a new perspective on where you're headed next.

Here's to making the most of the season ahead.

Happy first day of fall from Paradigm Shift Partners. 🍂

There are plenty of ways to measure financial progress.

Net worth. Portfolio value. Income. Savings rate. Business valuation.

But eventually, the numbers are supposed to turn into something.

Time.
Experiences.
Family.
Health.
Generosity.
Freedom.

Maybe another business. Maybe a slower morning. Maybe six weeks somewhere warm. Maybe more afternoons fishing with your grandkids.

The answer is different for everyone.

That's the point.

Don't build wealth simply for the sake of building wealth.

Build it toward something.

So...what are you building toward?

Walter Roth has spent his career helping people make financial decisions.

But somewhere along the way, the question became bigger than money.

As Walter puts it:

"I want to spend the rest of my life helping others make the most of theirs."

That idea is a big part of why Paradigm Shift Partners exists.

Walter believes wealth should create choices. That retirement should be about more than reaching a number. And that sometimes the best decisions require being willing to take the road less traveled.

He knows something about that last one.

PSP is Walter's opportunity to build a firm around those ideas and create a place where financial planning can lead to much bigger conversations about life, purpose and what's next.

And if you've spent five minutes with him, you already know:

He has some ideas.

Investments matter.

But your portfolio is only one part of your financial life.

What about taxes?

Cash flow?

Retirement income?

Insurance and risk?

Estate planning?

Long-term care?

The people and causes you want to support?

And perhaps most importantly, what do you actually want all of those numbers to make possible?

Good planning isn't a collection of disconnected strategies.

It's understanding how the pieces work together and making decisions with the bigger picture in mind.
