Allegheny County Council has approved a paid parental leave measure that would affect many local employers.

Employers with 15 or more eligible employees would generally be required to provide up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth or adoption of a child. Employee eligibility requirements also apply.

County Executive Sara Innamorato is expected to sign the measure today. Employers generally would have six months to implement the policy, with additional time available in certain circumstances.

We’ll continue following the details as additional implementation guidance becomes available.

Considering new lighting, an HVAC replacement or other equipment upgrades for your Pennsylvania small business?

The Pennsylvania Small Business Advantage Grant could help reimburse 50% to 80% of eligible project costs. Maximum awards range from $7,500 to $12,000, depending on the project’s environmental impact and location.

Businesses with 100 or fewer full-time employees may qualify. Most projects must reduce annual energy consumption or pollution prevention expenses by at least 20% and save at least $500 annually. Natural resource protection projects are exempt from these savings requirements.

Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis through March 19, 2027, or until funding is fully committed. Projects must be completed by June 30, 2027. If upgrades are on your calendar, now is a good time to review the requirements.
