Dave Hutchison was in the tax department of Touche Ross, CPAs (before their merger with Deloitte) and then a tax supervisor at McGladrey Hendrickson & Co., CPAs before founding his own tax accounting firm in 1975. Before selling the practice in 1989, he found a huge need for objective, independent financial planning and advice on investments and insurance alternatives, based on side-by-side analytical comparisons rather than sales hype. For the last 30+ years, Dave has specialized in helping clients save, accumulate, invest and help protect their assets. Dave has been quoted in BARRONS, among other publications, has appeared on radio and television and conducted seminars for CPAs and the public back in the 1980's including warnings about risky real estate tax shelters, as well as a variety of financial planning and investment topics. Dave was the founder of Hutchison Financial Corporation (HFC), a small broker-dealer which had about 100 representatives and employees in five states. Dave moved from the Minneapolis area (Richfield, Edina and St. Louis Park) to Phoenix in 1988. Dave prefers working directly with individual clients rather than all the headaches of owning a broker-dealer. Therefore, he sold HFC and has since devoted himself to researching investment opportunities and working directly with clients. Unfortunately, four years after the sale of HFC the new owners had regulatory issues with FINRA. Dave was not involved in any of these issues. Dave has never had any FINRA or RIA compliance issues since he became licensed in 1981. Since 1983, Dave has been a FINRA Registered Principal and Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction (OSJ). Earlier Career - Way back when
Dave's financial career began - after earning an accounting degree from the University of Minnesota (UofM) - as Chief Accountant for Cedar-Riverside Associates (CRA) which was redeveloping the West Bank of the University of Minnesota. CRA co-founder Keith Heller was a tax professor who also had a large tax practice. Dave prepared for him tax returns for mostly wealthy clients. That led him to join Touche Ross, CPAs directly into their tax department. At the time Touche Ross was one of the "Big 8" CPA firms in the U.S. While Dave enjoys all kinds of clients, he relates well with the analytical engineer type, as well as CPAs. Upon moving to Phoenix, he picked up a number of engineering executives from Allied Signal after its merger with Honeywell in 1999, who continue to be great clients. Personal Life Experiences
Dave is an amateur radio operator (WA0JKT) and was a communications manager, active with MARS (Military Affiliated Radio Service) handling large numbers of messages from Vietnam soldiers to their families, and had various articles written about him in national "ham" radio publications. Dave was active with many Christian organizations. He was a counselor for the Billy Graham organization (headquartered in Minneapolis), a Church elder, active with Christian Business Men's Committee and other Christian groups. He has always respected all religious beliefs, and now days has much more liberal views. Dave has also led Christian couples groups on intimacy and sexuality to overcome false guilt on some of these issues. Dave has been trained in Esalen massage, taught massage to couples groups and has long promoted positive intimacy and sexuality regardless of religious affiliation, race or sexual orientation. Dave has enjoyed travel in Asia, South America and especially in Canada. During the hot Phoenix summers, Dave has traveled annually for over a decade to Toronto for 10 days at a time. He has many friends there. Wisdom and experience grow with age - Dave enjoys his profession, is blessed with excellent health, a Frank Lloyd Wright - inspired home with an ideal office overlooking North Phoenix. He enjoys his work too much to retire!
