🎉 Four classes down, and things are moving right along!

We’ve officially completed four classes in our Jumping Jack Taxes Tax Fundamentals Course, and I’m excited to share that we just had another student enroll this week!

Our newest student will be taking the self-paced option because their schedule doesn’t allow them to attend our live virtual classes. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to offer both options. Everyone’s availability is different, and I don’t want someone’s work schedule or other commitments to stop them from having the opportunity to learn.

Here’s something interesting that came up during my conversation with this student.

They mentioned that they had been looking into a few other tax preparation courses, but noticed that some jumped right into teaching students how to enter information into tax software.

I explained that that’s not how I teach my course.
I’m not teaching students to just sit in front of a computer and enter numbers into a tax program.
I want you to actually understand taxes!

There’s a big difference between knowing where to enter information and understanding what that information means.

Can you explain those things to a client in a way they can understand?
That’s what I want my students to learn.

I look at it like this: Tax software is just a tool. If you understand the fundamentals of tax preparation, you can take that and apply it to different tax software programs.

Still interested and want to join it at self paced based on your schedule?

🚨 IRS ANNOUNCEMENT — YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO FILE!

👀 The October 15th tax deadline has passed, but here’s some news you should know!

On October 23, 2026, the IRS officially announced that its electronic filing system will shut down for annual maintenance on December 26, 2026, at 11:59 AM Eastern Time.

So what does that mean for you?

It means eligible tax returns can still be electronically filed before the shutdown!

At Jumping Jack Taxes, we’re still helping taxpayers get caught up with:

✅ 2025 tax returns

✅ Prior-year unfiled tax returns

✅ Self-employed and business tax returns

✅ IRS notices, outstanding balances, and payment arrangements

💰 OWE THE IRS? HERE’S SOMETHING IMPORTANT!

Just because the filing deadline has passed doesn’t mean the penalties and interest have stopped.

If you owe taxes, applicable penalties and interest can continue adding up on unpaid balances.

And here’s something else to understand: Getting IRS penalties waived isn’t automatic! While certain taxpayers may qualify for penalty relief, eligibility depends on their circumstances. Interest relief is even more limited.

📬 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER ELECTRONIC FILING CLOSES?

Tax returns can still be prepared and submitted by mail during the IRS electronic filing shutdown.

📢 A QUICK REMINDER:

Our office will be closed for the last two weeks of December. If you’re looking to get your taxes prepared and filed before the end of the year, now is a great time to get started!

Don’t carry those unfinished tax returns into another year if you can take care of them now.

Money Monday 💰

We’re officially in the last three months of the year, and there’s still time to make some smart money moves before 2026 is over.

This is a good time to look at your finances and decide what you can do now instead of waiting until January.

If you’re carrying high-interest debt, consider putting a little more toward those balances. If your job offers a 401(k), review your contributions and see whether increasing them before year-end makes sense for you.

For business owners, take a look at what your business actually needs.

📌If you have the cash flow and there are equipment, tools, software, or other necessary purchases you’ve been putting off, now may be the time to consider making those purchases before year-end to potentially lower your taxable business income, and don’t forget the paperwork. If you paid independent contractors or vendors, start getting those W-9s together now so you’re not chasing people down in January.

While you’re working on these last three months, start thinking about the first three months of 2027 too.

👉🏽What do you want January, February, and March to look like financially?
👉🏽What do you want to pay down, save, invest, or accomplish in your business?

You don’t have to wait until January 1st to start planning for a better year. Use these last three months to make some moves, get organized, and put yourself in a stronger position going into 2027.

What’s one money move you’re working on before the end of the year? 💰

Have questions and need help?

We spend so much time thinking about what’s next.

👉🏽The next goal.
👉🏽The next opportunity.
👉🏽The next thing that needs to get done.

Sometimes, without even realizing it, we move right past the things we once worked so hard to accomplish.

Today, I’m reminding myself to appreciate the progress before immediately turning it into another starting point.

👉🏽Not everything went according to plan.
👉🏽Some things took longer than expected.
👉🏽Some decisions had to be changed along the way.

There are still plenty of things left to accomplish.

That doesn’t erase the progress that has already been made.

Sometimes you have to look around and say, “Okay… I did that.”

Then you can figure out the next move.

But today?

Take a minute and appreciate the last one. ❤️

Happy Sunday 🙏

I’ve been thinking beyond just filling seats for this upcoming class.

As I continue building the Tax Fundamentals Course, one thing I really want to do is connect with organizations that are already helping people learn, grow and prepare for what’s next.

📌I’m interested in connecting with schools, workforce-development programs, community organizations, youth programs, colleges, and other organizations working with individuals who could benefit from being introduced to taxes as a skill.

Because everybody who learns about taxes isn’t necessarily looking to become a tax preparer.

For some, it may be their first introduction to how taxes actually work.

For someone else, it could become an additional skill they can use alongside what they’re already doing.

And for another person, it may introduce them to a field they never even considered before.

That’s the part I’m excited about.

The Tax Fundamentals Course may have started as a way to teach the basics, but I also see an opportunity to use it to expose more people to tax education and the possibilities that can come from learning it.

So while enrollment is still open, I’m also looking to make connections.

If you work with a school, college, workforce-development program, youth organization, community organization, or another program where this could be a good fit, I’d love to connect.

And if that’s not you, but someone came to mind while reading this, tag them or send this post their way.

Sometimes the right opportunity starts with the right introduction.

Tax Tip Saturday❗️

Please open those IRS letters.

I know getting a letter from the IRS can make you nervous. Sometimes people are so worried about what it might say that they put it to the side and tell themselves they’ll deal with it later.

Then another letter comes. And another.

And unfortunately, by the time some clients reach out to me, the situation has moved from regular notices to possible levies, liens, or wage garnishment.

At that point, they’re scared and understandably want to know:

👉🏽 “Can you stop this?”
👉🏽 “Can you call the IRS for me?”
👉🏽 “What can I do now?”

And that’s when we start figuring it out together.

Here’s what I want people to know: you don’t have to wait until it gets to that point to ask for help.

📌The IRS generally sends notices and provides opportunities to respond before serious collection action occurs.

If you receive something and don’t understand it, that’s the time to start asking questions.

You don’t have the money to pay it? Let’s see what options may be available.

👉🏽You think the amount is wrong? Let’s look into it.

You haven’t filed in a few years and you’re afraid to even start? Start somewhere.

If you have several IRS letters sitting at home, bring them all. Sometimes that first letter helps us understand how we got to the most recent one.

The goal isn’t to judge how you got here. The goal is to figure out where you are now and what your next step should be.

Open the letter. Don’t panic. And don’t ignore it.

The earlier you address a tax issue, the more time you may have to understand your options before it becomes more urgent.

I know today is FREE RESOURCE FRIDAY, but I had to change directions for a minute because this was weighing heavily on my heart to share.

In business, we all have those moments — and this is for those who truly LOVE what they do — where you question:

“Am I doing the right thing?”

I’m not talking about money. I’m talking about questioning your purpose and whether you’re really in the field you’re supposed to be in.

Then you get that phone call.

A client needs help. You listen, answer questions, provide feedback — just a normal conversation to me. No big deal, right?

Then they tell you how much you helped them or how you lifted a burden off of them.

And it’s like… okay, I hear you. ❤️

I swear, we know that some clients are not ideal, to say the least. 😂

Then you’re reminded:

One client can change the direction of your entire business.

I talk to people every day who have spoken with multiple professionals, heard different answers, or spent money trying to get something resolved and still walk away confused.

When someone gets on a call with me, I don’t want it to feel like a sales call. I talk to people like we’ve met before. I’m laid-back, down-to-earth, and I want people to feel comfortable asking questions.

Because taxes can already be intimidating enough. The person you trust with your taxes, finances, or business shouldn’t be intimidating too.

And you never know what one conversation can lead to.

👉🏽It may be the client who refers five people.

👉🏽The client who makes the right introduction.

👉🏽The client who opens the door to an entirely new opportunity.

👉🏽Or simply the client who tells someone, “Call her. She’ll explain it to you.” 😊 (I Love when I hear that)

So, to every entrepreneur and business owner in my network:

I pray you meet that one client in October. ❤️

The one who reminds you why you started and that what you do matters.

And when that opportunity comes, I pray your business is prepared to receive it. 🙏

🚗 TAX MYTH THURSDAY: UBER & LYFT DRIVERS

❌ MYTH:
“I received a 1099, so I have to pay tax on the entire amount shown.”

✅ FACT:
Your 1099 may only tell part of the story.

If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or another rideshare platform, don’t just bring your 1099 forms to your tax preparer.

Bring your annual tax summary or driver statement too.

Why?

That statement may help us identify:

👉🏽Platform and service fees
👉🏽Other fees and expenses charged by the platform
👉🏽Your rideshare activity
👉🏽Tips received from customers

And that last one is especially important for 2025 taxes.

📌Under the new federal No Tax on Tips deduction, eligible rideshare and gig workers may be able to deduct qualified tips from their taxable income.

Your 1099 may include those tips in the total amount without showing us separately how much was actually tips.

📌 The takeaway:
Don’t throw away your Uber or Lyft tax summary just because you received a 1099.

The details matter.
