🤔 Living Will or Health Care Proxy — do you know the difference?
Many people assume they're the same thing, but these two essential estate planning documents serve very different purposes. One outlines your medical wishes, while the other appoints someone you trust to make health care decisions if you're unable to do so. Together, they help ensure your voice is heard when it matters most. 📋❤️
Don't leave your future care decisions up to chance.

🚨 Before you buy that extra-long twin bedding... read this. 🚨
If you are packing your first child off to college this fall, your checklist probably has things like shower caddies, mini-fridges, and text books. But there's one massive blind spot most parents miss: The legal reality of turning 18.
The moment your child hits 18, they are legally an adult. That means the automatic parental authority you've had for nearly two decades vanishes.
If there is a medical or financial emergency at school:
❌ Hospitals cannot legally give you information due to HIPAA.
❌ Banks cannot grant you access to their accounts—even to deposit emergency money.
Thankfully, you can bridge this gap before move-in day with three simple documents:
1️⃣ Healthcare Proxy – Designates you as their medical decision-maker if they can't speak for themselves.
2️⃣ HIPAA Release – Allows doctors to share health updates with you.
3️⃣ Durable Power of Attorney – Lets you handle financial or housing emergencies on their behalf.
Don't wait for a crisis to find out you've been locked out. Get these settled before the car is packed! 👇

Mindset shifted. Network upgraded. 🤯
Looking back at the weekend of May 29th and I’m still processing how incredible this experience was. I spent my weekend at the Marczell Klein training, and to say it was eye-opening would be a massive understatement.
Being in the audience while Marczell Klein, Owen Cook, and Luke belmar dropped some of the most refreshing, perspective-shattering material on mindset was exactly what I needed. These guys aren't just teaching; they are completely rewriting the blueprint for success.
I also got to connect with other powerhouse leaders in the room like Tisha Marie Cain and Rodney Wolfel, meeting people of this caliber and absorbing that collective energy was unmatched. If you aren't actively putting yourself in rooms with people who force you to level up, you’re falling behind.
Major thank you to everyone who put on such an impactful event. The ROI on this weekend is going to be wild. 🚀
Drop a 🧠 if you’re ready to upgrade your mindset this year!

The Legal Blindspot Affecting New York Parents This Summer
Every summer, parents across New York and New Jersey prepare their kids for the transition to college. They handle the housing, the transcripts, and the finances. But they completely overlook a major legal shift.
The moment a child turns 18, they are a legal adult. This means parents no longer have the automatic right to access medical information, speak with healthcare providers, or manage financial matters on their behalf—even in a severe emergency.
At the Law Offices of Vlad Portnoy, we see this gap create unnecessary hardship for families every single year.
That’s why from May 15 to July 15, we’re opening up our dedicated Young Adult Estate Planning Packages. We’ve streamlined the process down to a single meeting where we establish essential Healthcare Proxies, Powers of Attorney, and HIPAA Authorizations.
Protect your student before they depart for campus this fall.

Did you know that the moment your child turns 18, your automatic legal authority ends?
Even if you pay their tuition and provide their health insurance, HIPAA privacy regulations and financial institutions block you from accessing their medical records or managing their accounts in an emergency.
Before they pack up for college this fall, ensure you have the authority to act when it matters most. Our Young Adult Estate Planning Summer Offer is open now through July 15th to bridge this exact gap.
