10 QUESTIONS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT FINANCIAL ADVISOR

Selecting the right financial advisor is important. The wrong decision can lead to unmet goals, wasted time and regret. It also has opportunity costs — missed chances to accomplish more for yourself, your loved ones and the causes you care about.

But how do you find a good fit? Many advisors would welcome your business, yet the decision is often clouded by personal biases, the fact that past performance does not guarantee future results, and the reality that investment performance is only one aspect of success when it comes to financial planning.

However, the process does not need to be long or difficult. Often, asking your accountant or lawyer — rather than a friend or family member — for a referral and performing some simple due diligence is a good place to start. To help, we suggest asking the following questions to identify the best fit.

Costly Mistakes to Avoid in a Divorce

Very few divorces are “easy.” When children are involved, the process becomes even more complicated. And for high-income couples and those with complex assets, such as real estate or privately held businesses, a divorce can drag on for many months or even years — at great expense to the couple involved.

The expression “choose your battles” may prove useful when weighing the costs and benefits — both financially and emotionally — of issues raised during a divorce, but settlements can also carry the weight of permanence: If something is missed and the divorce is finalized, going back and revising agreements can be more difficult and considerably more expensive than if the issue were addressed the first time around.

So how does one balance streamlining the process while avoiding unintentional consequences?

5 Myths About Managing Money in Retirement

Chances are, you worry about having enough money in retirement to be able to maintain your lifestyle and accomplish the goals you have for yourself, your family and your legacy. Even our wealthiest clients express this concern, not because they are spendthrifts, but because the future is inherently uncertain. Unpredictable variables, including market returns, unexpected life events, tax policy and more — not to mention the discomfort that comes with losing employment income - weigh on their minds.

To help you minimize these concerns — and focus on factors you can control — here are some myth-busting strategies for working toward optimal financial outcomes during the exciting yet dauting period of retirement.

1. Myth: You should spend about 4% of your assets per year
2. Myth: Every retiree should deplete their taxable assets before withdrawing from their tax-deferred accounts
3. Myth: Social Security won't be around much longer
4. Myth: You should move all your money to low-risk bonds
5. Myth: You should do nothing during bear markets

Aligning your Estate Plan With Your Legacy Goals

Imagine an estate plan as the blueprint for your legacy. Without careful alignment, even the most well-intentioned plans can fall short of truly representing your wishes. We believe that your estate plan should be a direct reflection of your life’s work and your deepest convictions, designed to secure your family’s future, support causes you cherish, and honor the legacy you’ve built.

Oftentimes, estate planning is viewed merely as a technical process of distributing assets. While crucial, it’s so much more. It’s about empowering you to dictate your terms, ensuring your values are upheld, and your loved ones are protected according to your vision. It’s the strategic framework that transforms your wishes into reality, providing clarity and assurance for you and those who matter most.

Your life’s journey is unique, filled with experiences, values, and aspirations that define who you are. As you build your life, you’re not just accumulating assets; you’re cultivating a personal legacy – the lasting impact you wish to leave on your loved ones and the world. But how do you insure that this legacy, carefully crafted over years, continues to thrive and reflect your deepest desires long after you’re gone? The answer lies in thoughtful estate planning.

When One Earns More: Navigating money talks in unequal income relationships.

Finances play a significant role in the stability and happiness of a marriage. The impact is so significant that in Fidelity’s 2024 Couples and Money study, it was found that 45% of partners reported that they argue about money at least occasionally, and 25% identify money as their greatest relationship challenge. The root of financial conflict can come from multiple factors including disagreement about spending habits, risk tolerance, and savings goals. But what about conflict due to feelings of resentment or guilt because one partner earns more than the other?

Planning Considerations for Large IRAs

Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) often represent one of the largest assets families grow over a lifetime. While these accounts are designed to support retirement income, they can also play a significant role in how wealth is transferred to the next generation.

Recent changes to the rules around inherited IRAs have made planning more complex, particularly around larger account balances. Under current rules, distribution timelines for many inherited IRAs have been compressed, requiring
assets to be distributed to beneficiaries much sooner than in the past. Since IRA distributions are treated as ordinary income, this shortened distribution window can lead to unintended tax consequences without thoughtful planning.

Understanding how large IRAs fit into a broader legacy strategy can help families align assets with their long-term goals and potentially reduce the tax burden on future generations.

Retired but Not Alone: How to Build Community and Purpose After Work

By Capital Management Group on September 2, 2026

Retirement is a significant life milestone that can bring a noticeable change to the pace and rhythm of daily life. If you spent years planning for retirement, you may have imagined finally having the freedom to slow down and enjoy life on your own terms. But what many people don’t realize is that this freedom can also come with a significant lifestyle shift. The morning routine of commuting to work and grabbing a coffee on the way may suddenly disappear, along with the everyday interactions you had with colleagues. For others who are used to an active lifestyle or enjoy socializing, the adjustment can be challenging, as their days may look drastically different than they did before.

The U.S. Treasury surprised markets by announcing it would at least double the size of its liquidity support buybacks for longer-dated Treasuries, just two weeks after releasing its August quarterly refunding buyback schedule. Beginning September 9, the maximum operation size will increase from $2 billion to at least $4 billion in the 10- to 20- year and 20- to 30- year sectors.
