Will the market be higher tomorrow? Historically, it's close to a coin flip.

Since 1950, the S&P 500 has finished higher on just 51% of days. But stretch the timeline and the picture changes:

📈1 year: higher 74% of the time
📈 10 years: 93%
📈 20 years: every single rolling period ended higher

Nobody can predict tomorrow, and past performance doesn't guarantee future results. But the data makes one thing clear: time in the market has rewarded patience far more reliably than trying to time it.

That's why we build retirement plans around your long-term vision, not the day's headlines. With a structured a structured portfolio and a plan for your short-term income needs, you can let your long-term investments do their work.

Retire without worry.

Is there actually a “best” month to retire?

For many people, February or March can create some valuable tax and financial planning opportunities, but your ideal timing depends on a lot more than the calendar.

We broke it all down in our latest blog. And if you Google “best month to retire,” you might just see a familiar name at the top.

He lives in Raleigh, NC with his wife, Lydia, their son, Carson, and their two cats, Felix and Jet. Outside of work, Joseph enjoys playing guitar, working on his golf game (the transition over from baseball has been tough), and spending time in the Outer Banks with family and friends.

The #1 predictor of retirement confidence isn't your income. It isn't your portfolio.

It's whether you have a plan.

Fidelity surveyed thousands of Americans and asked one simple question: do you feel confident about retirement? 83% of people with a financial plan said yes. Only 38% of people without one did.

A 45-point gap. Bigger than income. Bigger than account balance. Bigger than whatever investment decision you've been agonizing over.

And it makes sense, a plan isn't a spreadsheet. It's the answers to the questions keeping you up at night. When can I retire? When should I claim Social Security? Should I do a Roth conversion? What happens if the market tanks the year I stop working?

Once those questions are answered on paper, the anxiety has nowhere to live.

Don't have a plan yet? It's never too late to start.

A Roth conversion is one of the few moves in retirement planning you can't take back. It's always worth being sure.

The math usually looks great, and that's the problem.

Every conversion projection has to assume future tax rates, inflation, investment returns, and which spouse passes first.

Move any one of those and a six-figure savings number can shrink, vanish, or reverse. The number on the screen is a directional signal, not a promise.

The right question is almost never whether to convert. It's how much, and in which year.

Meet Kyle Hurt, CFP® — Financial Planner at Foundry Financial.

Kyle brings seven years in the industry and a simple belief about the work: it's the perfect blend of numbers and people. He guides clients through tax planning, income strategy, and Roth conversion decisions, whether they're just starting to think about retirement or standing right at the edge of it.

Outside the office you'll find him in the water, in a book, or serving his local church. He'll tell you the discipline the ocean demands isn't so different from the discipline good financial planning takes.

His goal for every client: clarity and peace.

The gold watch is dead.

72% of Americans now say they'll retire on their own terms. Nearly 7 in 10 are planning something other than a hard stop, consulting, gig work, a business, a whole new industry.

Working two days a week at something you love isn't failing retirement. It's designing it.

Retirement isn't an ending. It's a redesign.

How much should you have saved for retirement by age 60?

It’s one of the most common retirement questions, and one of the hardest to answer with a simple benchmark.

You’ll often hear rules like “8x your income.” But averages can be misleading, and rules of thumb don’t account for how much you actually spend, Social Security, when you plan to retire, or the income your portfolio needs to produce.

The more useful question isn’t, **“How do my savings compare to everyone else?”**

It’s **“Do I have enough to support the retirement I actually want?”**

Swipe through for a closer look at what Americans near 60 have saved, why the average doesn’t tell the whole story, and what you can still do if you feel behind.

Your retirement doesn’t need to match a benchmark. It needs to match your life.

For years we've said the same thing during our conversations with clients: money is a tool, not a scoreboard.

The problem was that our brand never really said it.

So we rebuilt it.

A much clearer picture of what it actually looks like to work with us. What we do. How we do it. Who does it.

The idea underneath all of it hasn't changed since Foundry launched: you did the hard part when you saved. The harder part is giving yourself permission to use it.
