I had a business with my dad and my brother. The EIN was in my name.

When my dad died, almost everybody left. People told me and my brother to our faces that we'd fail.

Then somebody did bad things in my name and with our money, and I was left holding $180,000 in debt I didn't know existed. My name was on all of it. Everybody said I was screwed.

Nobody was coming to save me. So I sat down with a box of scrap paper and mixed-up records and figured it out myself. No one taught me. And I didn't just get out, I walked away with over $20,000 in my pocket instead of debt.

I didn't take the normal route. I left school in eighth grade, got my GED at 20, and later went back and earned my certifications in bookkeeping, technical accounting, and business administration at Ivy Tech. I'm proud of that, because nobody handed it to me. But the real education was the mess I had to dig myself out of.

Give me a mess and I will fix it.

That's really all I do, in every part of this business. Planning a wedding? Throwing a party and dreading the details? Want to start a business and have no clue where to begin? Books a mess? Not sure if you're registered with the IRS and the state? Have you even been filing your entity reports?

Same job, every time. Somebody has to see what's coming and handle it before it lands on you.

I won't pretend I know everything, I'm still learning. But I don't quit, and I will find the answer.

And this one matters most to me: I know what it's like to have someone misuse your information. When you hand me yours, I protect it better than my own.
