Last week Congressman Gallagher's office asked if our office would come join in a celebration of all the hard work done to recover the monies from HR 5863 and continued work on recovery.
We were honoured.
We were accompanied by the lead IRS advocate in the area (Sacto office) and part of his staff. It was a great pleasure to meet the faces behind the IRS team, as well as Congressman Gallagher's team. Although all of us have talked and exchanged emails, more than we should have ovwr the last two years ;) we were honoured to be the only tax preparation firm from the ridge asked to be there.
Robert, the Lead IRS Advocate, is one of 75 leads in regional advoxate offices across the US. 5 offices in CA.
We have sent many of our clients to the IRS Advocates directly, as per standard protocol, if there had NOT been any correspondence from the IRS. Those advocates work in the US but are not on teams like these assigned to regional offices.
What makes Robert and his team unique to those involved in the Campfire is that he and I both warned the IRS leadership in Dec ('24) and Jan ('25) about the inbound volumes (our firm did 2200+, and Robert projected roughly 200K total, and that they should have dedicated teams to handle these amended. It went unheaded.
So, Robert and his team service Congressional Offices and their constituents. As such, after we sent letters to the IRS for you and still could not get anywhere, or if you had no correspondence from the IRS but lots of time had passed, we would send you LaMalfa (R.I.P.) and now Gallagher, if you are here local. Once the wonderful Congressional staff reviewed the details and a privacy statement signed, then it would go directly to Robert and his team.
We had two clients there today who are still having issues, one of them finding out only YESTERDAY the IRS computer reversed an earlier decision to issue a refund. It was great to have them meet and discuss with the advocates their situations.
It was also great to announce that a refund arrived today, after I sent THREE LETTERS (the last one being snarky), to the tune of 11KUS$! The initial refund was to be 8,886US$ and the family got 3K + in interest from their 2021 return.
When I first drove up Clark Road, 5 years ago now, to discuss the purchase of Bill's practice, i never imagined the emotions I would have, see you as survivors experience and hear of your sorrows and joys. It has been an honour to be your trusted preparer here on the ridge as it relates to the fire (okay, other items too). As a staff we have been blessed to walk on this journey with you. I want to acknowledge the base leg work Bill did in research and how he respected my desire to get invovled with LaMalfa and staff. He respected the growth and changes in our knowledge as it relates to the fire.
We have less than 2% of our clients with outstanding issues with the IRS from the amended retuns. We hope we can continue to work and have patience to get those resolved.
Some final numbers from us as i think we are done filing amended returns. ;)
2200+ amended returns filed
17+ Million US$ in refunds
+/- 1 million in increased (replenished) NOLs, solar credits and more.
Roughly between 579K and 648K in INTEREST paid by the IRS in 2025/2026 on the refunded returns.
THANK YOU for YOUR TRUST and CONFIDENCE in our entire staff. We are proud to call you members of our TAXing Family.
