āServing LGBTQIA+ families doesnāt fit our target market.ā
Thatās a real thing I was told.
And I remember thinkingā¦
Who exactly do you think youāre talking about?
My friends?
The people who let me move in when my heart was broken?
The people who flew across the country when my dad got sick?
The people who showed up when life got hard?
Because thatās who I heard.
Not a target market.
Not a niche.
My friends.
Then I got into wealth management and watched a trans client get mocked behind their back by people who were perfectly happy to take their money.
That told me everything I needed to know.
The truth is, some of the people I love most are LGBTQIA+.
Some are raising kids.
Some are trying to have them.
Some are caring for aging parents.
Some are building businesses.
Some are figuring life out one day at a time.
Just like the rest of us.
The difference is that many have had to do it while navigating rejection, judgment, and political nonsense that most of us will never fully understand.
So when Pride Month rolls around, I donāt think about rainbow logos.
I think about my friends.
And I hope they know how loved they are. š
