✨KPERS Options✨

KPERS is the Kansas pension system for public educators and other public employees.

Once you are eligible to retire, KPERS gives you several options that you can elect as your retirement benefit: Single Life, Joint Life (and different percentages), lump sum options, etc.

Which one is best?!

Honestly, it depends on the individual. KPERS does NOT have a cost of living adjustment, so lump sums are popular, to try to grow a lump sum that is also available to you, however, it might make sense to elect the full monthly payment.

Also, those in KPERS 2 and 3 should have the mindset that KPERS will not be enough in retirement, please supplement your retirement by saving into an IRA, 403b or 457! You will thank me later.
