Jeff and Kristen are worth $2.4M and want to retire in 2 yrs.
I have 3 minutes to review their Financial Snapshot. ⏲️
Here are some of the questions and observations I have for them:
𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰:
-What’s causing the difference between the $10,000 and $11,700?
-Is the $3,200 surplus accurate? Have you audited your monthly expenses?
-What happens to the $3,200 surplus? Where does the money go?
-Have you analyzed your projected Social Security?
-What’s your plan for your remaining mortgage?
-Where will the $40,000 for the kitchen come from?
-How will you fund the $25,000 travel budget for 10 yrs?
-Have you considered inflation?
𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
-Is the portfolio aligned with your upcoming retirement?
-How will you manage Sequence of Returns risk for the next 7 yrs?
𝐓𝐚𝐱 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠:
-Nearly everything is in tax deferred accounts.
-What’s your estimated tax bill each year in retirement?
-Have you projected your Required Minimum Distributions?
-Have you considered Roth Conversions?
-Consider increasing your brokerage account balance with the monthly surplus for future tax flexibility.
-Are you maxing out your employers’ 401Ks?
-Are you eligible for Backdoor Roth contributions?
𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞:
-How will you pay for healthcare before age 65?
Depending on their answers, it will tell me if they have a retirement plan or not.
If they want to retire within 2 yrs, they should be able to answer most of these questions.
