You're tired of tax deadlines. We're tired of tax deadlines. 😴

So let's get through the last ones of the year together, and then — honestly — the finish line is right there.

🏁 October 15: extended personal returns (Form 1040) and extended calendar-year C corp returns (Form 1120). That's it. That's the list.

If you extended and haven't sent us your documents, this is the week. Not because we'll lecture you (we won't), but because interest on anything you owe has been running since April, and every day you wait makes the number bigger.

After the 15th we're officially hibernating until 1099 season… kidding. We pick up in November too — that's the whole point of us. But we will be a lot more relaxed. 🏰

It's October. Here's how the rest of your tax year looks, in weeks: ⏳

1 → extended personal and C corp returns due October 15
8 → the last comfortable window to book a tax planning meeting before December
12 → year-end, and the deadline for most tax-saving moves
14 → Q4 estimated taxes due January 15
17 → W-2s and 1099s due February 1

The one that matters most is the 8. Everything after year-end is just filing what already happened — October and November are the last weeks where a planning meeting can still change the number.

No Tax on Overtime sounds like an insanely good tax hack for workaholics…

Unfortunately, it's a little more nuanced than that! Swipe to learn the truth. 👉

Here's the short version:

⏰ It's not "no tax." It's a deduction — up to $12,500 a year ($25,000 if married filing jointly) — that lowers your taxable income. Your overtime still shows up on your W-2 and gets taxed at first; the deduction comes back on your return.

💵 It's only the "extra" part. If you earn $20 an hour and $30 for overtime, only the $10 premium qualifies — not the whole $30. That's a smaller number than most people expect.

🧾 Social Security and Medicare still apply. The deduction is for federal income tax only. Payroll taxes come out of every overtime dollar, same as always.

📉 There's an income limit. The deduction starts shrinking above $150,000 ($300,000 joint). Work enough overtime to blow past that and the benefit fades.

📅 It's temporary. Tax years 2025 through 2028, unless Congress extends it.

So is it worth working the extra shifts? Financially, sure — you still keep most of what you earn. Just don't do it for the tax break. Do it for the paycheck, and let us make sure the deduction actually lands on your return.

Overtime earner? Bring your W-2 in and we'll show you what it's really worth. English y español. 🏰

Insane things people accept as normal from their tax pro — from a team that would neverrrr:

1️⃣ Filing without asking questions. If nobody asked what changed this year, they didn't prepare your return. They typed it.

2️⃣ No availability outside tax season. The IRS sends letters in August. Life changes in October. A tax pro with a "back in January" sign isn't a tax pro, it's a seasonal kiosk.

3️⃣ Advice without knowing your situation. "You should be an S corp." Based on what? Generic advice is free on the internet, and it's worth what you paid.

We're just saying: you don't HAVE to accept any of this as the norm when TaxFort exists as a perfectly fine option. 🤭 Same preparer every year, open all year, and advice that starts with your actual numbers. English y español. 🏰

Want some free tax game? 👀

Here are three moves TaxFort clients are looking at before year-end — and there's still time for all three ↓

1️⃣ Raise your pre-tax retirement deferrals. Every dollar into a traditional 401(k) or similar plan comes off this year's taxable income. Bump the percentage now and the last few paychecks of the year do the work. Just watch the annual limits.

2️⃣ Buy the equipment you were going to buy anyway — before December 31. Laptops, tools, a work vehicle, that machine you've been putting off. Placed in service this year, it can be deducted this year. Same purchase, different tax year, very different bill.

3️⃣ Plan your charitable giving. Giving is great; giving strategically is better. Timing, bunching two years into one, or donating appreciated stock instead of cash can change what the same generosity does on your return — and the rules for 2026 shifted, so it's worth a look.

None of this is a loophole. It's just doing in October what most people scramble to do in April, when it's too late.

Need help legally lowering your bill? Book a year-end planning session at mytaxfort.com or call your office. English y español. 🏰

Mistakes happen. Thankfully you've got a tax team like ours to call them out before the IRS does. 😜 Our four least favorites:

1 · Forgetting your W-4 after a big life change. Got married, divorced, had a baby, kid moved out? Your withholding is still set for the old you. Hit up HR — it takes five minutes and saves an April surprise.

2 · "I didn't get a 1099, so it doesn't count." It counts. Missing paperwork doesn't make income disappear — the IRS already has its copy. Report it.

3 · The "100% business-use" car that's also the family car. If the IRS asks for the mileage log and it's soccer practice and Publix runs… you're cooked. Keep a real log, claim the real percentage.

4 · The $56,987 sitting in "Other Expenses." Please don't. Asking on behalf of us and the IRS. Categorize it properly and it's a deduction; leave it lumped and it's a question.

Guilty of one (or all four)? No judgment — that's literally what we're here for. Book at mytaxfort.com or call your office. English y español. 🏰

These are the tax questions we loooove getting from business owners before year-end. 🤓 And since you asked — here's the short version of how we answer them:

1 · What do I still have time to change?
More than you think. Your Q4 estimated payment, your W-2 withholding, when you send invoices and pay bills, your retirement contributions — and, for next year, your entity structure.

2 · Any tax-saving moves before December 31?
The usual suspects: equipment or vehicle purchases, retirement contributions, prepaying deductible expenses, an HSA if you qualify, and reviewing your S corp salary. Which ones make sense depends on your projection — that's the whole point of running it now.

3 · Anything in my business to fix?
Often, yes: mixed personal and business accounts, contractors you never collected W-9s from, an S corp election you should've made, sales tax you didn't know applied. Better to find these in September than in an IRS letter.

4 · Should I adjust my retirement contributions?
Maybe — and timing matters. Some plans have to be set up by December 31 even if you fund them later, and some can wait until you file. A 15-minute look at your numbers tells you which.

Ask these in September and there's a whole quarter to act. Ask them in February and all we can do is report what happened.
