In January 2025, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) finalized a rule that prevents unpaid medical bills from appearing on credit reports. This change is set to take effect on March 17, 2025. The rule is expected to remove approximately $49 billion in medical debt from the credit reports.
