If you picked up extra income this year and you're not sure what you owe on it, our new site was built for you.

It's live now. We work with resellers, people getting paid through Square, PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App, first-time LLC and S Corp owners, and small business owners who want their numbers to make sense. Everything runs virtually, so I work with clients anywhere, not just Orlando. The approach is simple. Track what comes in, track what goes out, and plan for what's coming next.

Take a look, and if something on there raises a question about your own situation, send us a message.

Four things I tell every new business owner to do long before anyone asks a question about the return.

None of these eliminate audit risk. They just mean that if a letter ever shows up, the answer is already sitting in your records instead of something you have to rebuild from memory. Swipe through the first set.

And if the IRS does reach out, slow down before you respond. That letter is usually about one line item, not your whole return, so it is smaller than it feels when you open the envelope. I can help you figure out what is actually being asked and what to send back.

If you received a letter, or last year's records are a mess, send me a message.

Your 1099-K shows gross sales. What you actually made is a smaller number, and you have to be able to show it.

Shipping costs, platform fees, refunds, sales tax you collected, and what you paid for the inventory all come off that figure. The problem is the platform reports one number and your bank shows another, so the two never line up on their own. That gap is where online sellers either overpay or file something they cannot back up.

The fix is tracking what comes in and what goes out as it happens, instead of rebuilding twelve months of it in March.

If you sell on eBay or Shopify and your records live in screenshots and payout emails, that is the cleanup we do. Send us a message and we will tell you what it takes to get your numbers straight.

You had a good year. The moves that lower what you owe mostly have to happen before December, not when you sit down to file.

Once the year closes, your options shrink to almost nothing. Before then you still have room. Retirement contributions, the timing of a big purchase, catching deductions you already earned, and getting your estimated payments right all move the number. Whether an S Corp makes sense is worth a look too, if you have not run it before. Swipe through for what I go over with clients who had a strong year.

If your business made real money this year and nobody has walked you through your options, send me a message and we can look at where you stand.

7 records to keep after you file, and two of them stay a lot longer than three years.

Most of it needs to stay at least three years, because that's the window where your return can still be reviewed. A couple of things stay much longer than that. If you sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Whatnot, or you take payments through Square, PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App, the yearly summary from each one is the backbone of your return. And if business money is still running through your personal account, the records you need are the ones you don't have yet.

Want the full plain-English checklist on what to check before you file? Send me a message and I'll send it your way.

Three tax dates land between now and January. Find yours.

You, the owner
September 15 is your Q3 estimated payment. It comes out of your pocket, not the business, whether you run a single-member LLC, an S Corp, or a partnership. The next one after that is January 15.

S Corp and partnership returns
September 15 is the extended deadline if you filed for one.

Sole proprietor and single-member LLC returns
October 15 is the extended deadline if you filed for one.

Missing one adds a penalty to a bill you already owed, which is a rough way to find out you were behind.

I work with people all year so these dates stop being a surprise. That means knowing what you owe before it's due, and having the money set aside when it is.

If you picked up extra income this year or started a business and you're not sure which of these is yours, send me a message and I'll tell you what to put on your calendar.

That wraps up tax planning week.

If you followed along this week, here's the recap:

When to time a big business purchase.

How to handle income that comes in waves.

Why credits beat deductions dollar for dollar.

The deduction LLC and S Corp owners forget to revisit.

The business expenses that quietly add up.

Every one of these is a move you can still make this year. None of them require a perfect filing system or a brand new accountant. They just require knowing they exist.

If even one of these landed and you want to talk through how it applies to your situation, that's exactly what a free 30-minute call is for. Book one at aefinance.co.

Next week I'll be back to regular posts. Until then, sit with the move that hit closest to home.
