Accounts Receivable (A/R) is money customers owe your business for products or services you’ve already provided.

Accounts Payable (A/P) is money your business owes vendors and suppliers for bills you haven’t paid yet.

Why should you pay attention to both?

Because overdue invoices can hurt your cash flow, while unpaid bills can lead to late fees and strained vendor relationships.

Review your A/R and A/P regularly so you know what needs to be collected and what needs to be paid.

Ask your tax professional about:

- How much you should be setting aside for taxes
- Whether your estimated tax payments need adjusting
- Deductions and tax credits you may qualify for
- Year-end purchases and expenses
- Retirement contributions
- Changes in your income or business
- Tax planning opportunities before year-end

The best time to talk about tax planning is before the year is over, while there’s still time to make decisions.

In many cases, a qualifying business loss can reduce taxable income, which may lower your overall tax bill.

However, there are rules that can limit how much of a loss you can deduct in the current year. Some losses may instead carry forward to future years.

Talk with a tax professional to understand how the rules apply to your specific business and tax situation.

This is also why accurate bookkeeping matters.

You need to know your real income, expenses, and profit or loss before you can properly plan for taxes.

Goodbye, September. Hello, October!

A new month, a new quarter, and the final stretch of the year.

There’s still time to:

- Get your bookkeeping caught up
- Review your year-to-date numbers
- Improve your cash flow
- Collect unpaid invoices
- Prepare for year-end and tax season
- Start planning your goals and budget for next year

Don’t wait until December to get started.

What’s ONE thing you want to accomplish in your business before the year ends?
