Be on the alert for scams over text messages and phone calls!

Such scams are on the rise again. In fact, our office was the target of one such scam yesterday--thankfully, we can call a bluff pretty easily, especially when that bluff includes the police tracking our GPS locations and descending upon our office like something out of a James Bond movie.

Over a year ago, the FBI warned of such scams and has recently doubled down on that warning. If you allegedly have unpaid tolls, you should always verify that information by logging in to the official Oklahoma PIKEPASS website. Additionally, be wary of phone calls from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office where they attempt to extort a cash payment from you, under threat of being tracked down with military precision.

Law enforcement will never text or call you to warn you that you that they are on their way to arrest you before demanding payment. Not for unpaid tolls. Not for missing jury duty. Not for any reason.

Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Smishing Scam Regarding Debt for Road Toll Services Since early-March 2024, the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has received over 2,000 complaints reporting smishing1 texts representing road toll collection service from at least three states. IC3 complaint information indicates the scam may be moving from state-to-state.
