Through the Proud to Serve partnership with KFOR, we are honored to recognize the first responders who put themselves in danger to protect others. During a recent apartment fire in Midwest City, firefighters and emergency crews responded quickly as residents were forced to escape through windows to safety. Their bravery, urgency, and commitment in critical moments like these make a lasting impact on our community, and we are proud to help recognize those who serve others every day. 💙🚒

For more than 20 years, Maria served in law enforcement while also volunteering as a sheriff’s reserve deputy, dedicating her life to protecting and serving others. As a nationally certified hostage and crisis negotiator, she brought calm and compassion to some of the most difficult situations imaginable.

Beyond her career, Maria has spent decades advocating for abused and neglected women and children, helping lead the “Children Deserve Christmas” program for 25 years and impacting thousands of families in our community. Even in retirement, she continues to uplift others through women’s enrichment initiatives and her ongoing service work.

Maria has never asked for recognition, but her compassion, leadership, and selfless service make her a true Hometown Hero. We were honored to present her with a check in recognition of the incredible impact she continues to make in our community.
