If you are a contract worker, freelancer, or self-employed and don’t have an employer to withhold your taxes, just like everyone else, you still must pay your taxes. It’s your responsibility to know what they are, when to pay them, and how much to pay. Because of this, you may need to pay quarterly taxes.

According to the IRS, you must pay an estimated quarterly tax if you pass the following 2-part test:

1. You are expected to owe at least $1,000 in taxes on your income.

2. The amount of taxes you’ve withheld (tax withholding usually happens through payroll) and refundable credits will be less than the smaller of:
- 90% of your prior-year tax liability, or
- 100% of your tax liability two years prior.

Point two sounds confusing, which is why we can’t stress enough - consider working with a tax professional.

As a business owner managing fixed assets, you'll need to maintain various paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate accounting, and compliance. Here's a list of important paperwork for fixed assets:

1. Documentation for each fixed asset purchase, including invoices or receipts.

2. A detailed record or register that includes information about each fixed asset, such as its description, purchase date, cost, useful life, and depreciation.

3. A schedule outlining the depreciation method used and the annual depreciation expense for each fixed asset. This helps in calculating the asset's book value over time.

4. Documents proving ownership, such as bills of sale or transfer documents, are essential for establishing the business's rightful ownership of fixed assets.

5. Copies of warranties and maintenance agreements, if applicable, provide important details about asset maintenance and repair.

5. Copies of insurance policies covering fixed assets help protect against potential losses due to damage, theft, or other unforeseen events.
