Do you know what people most often regret after retiring?

Not working too little. And not earning too little.

Research among American retirees has shown the same picture for years. At the top of the regret list are three things: starting to plan too late, knowing too little about taxes in retirement, and Social Security decisions made without the full picture.

Notice the common denominator. None of these regrets are about what happened. All of them are about what wasn't known - at the moment when decisions could still have been made differently.

And that's the most comforting part of this research. Because knowledge, unlike time, can be recovered at any moment.

If retirement is still ahead of you - these three topics are worth learning now, while every decision is still open. If you're already there - decisions remain that can still be made better.

The best time for a planning conversation was ten years ago. The second best is today.

You have savings, accounts, policies. But do you have a plan?

It's not the same question - even though at first glance it sounds similar.

Accounts are places where money sits. A plan is knowing why it sits there, what it's supposed to do, and when. Accounts answer the question "how much do I have." A plan answers the questions that come later: what will I live on, in what order do I withdraw, what happens when life changes the script.

October is National Financial Planning Month - the month America is reminded of the difference between owning financial products and owning a plan.

Many people we talk to have years of solid saving behind them. The accounts grow, the policies are paid, everything looks orderly. And yet when asked "how does it all work together?" - silence.

Because nobody has ever looked at the whole situation.

A plan is not another product. It's the map that connects what you already have with where you want to go. And that map is the right place to start this month.

Want to see your whole picture? Let's talk.

Did you know that who inherits your retirement account is decided not by your will - but by one form you filled out years ago?

That sentence surprises nearly everyone who hears it for the first time. And yet that's exactly how American law works: the beneficiary designation on a retirement account, insurance policy, or investment account takes precedence over your will.

You can have the most carefully prepared will in the world. If the beneficiary form says otherwise - the form wins.

And this is where the stories begin that estate attorneys know all too well. The account that goes to an ex-spouse, because a form from the nineties was never updated. Children left out, because they were born after the document was signed. Wealth flowing exactly where nobody wanted it to flow anymore.

The worst part of these stories: every one of them was preventable - with five minutes of attention.

Check your beneficiary designations. On your retirement account, your insurance policy, everywhere. Make sure a document from years ago says the same thing you would say today.

And if you'd like to review everything calmly, with support - we're here.

Did you know that after age 73, the government makes you withdraw money from your account - whether you want to or not?

It's called RMD - Required Minimum Distributions. And for many people, it's the most surprising news in all of retirement planning.

For decades, the system encouraged you to save: contribute, deduct, build. But that generosity came with fine print. The IRS deferred its tax - it never gave it up. And at age 73, it comes to collect.

From that moment, every year, you must withdraw a specified minimum amount from your traditional retirement accounts - calculated from tables - and pay income tax on it. Don't want to withdraw? The penalty runs up to 25% of the amount you failed to take.

But here's the good news: RMDs can be planned for. Spreading withdrawals earlier, Roth conversions in the right years, a considered sequence of accounts - all of it can meaningfully reduce that decade's tax bill.

There's one condition: you have to start before the clock reaches 73.

How many years do you have left?

Did you know your Roth IRA clock only starts ticking with your first contribution?

It's one of the least-known rules in the entire retirement system - and it can surprise you at the worst possible moment.

It's called the five-year rule. It says that for your Roth IRA earnings to be withdrawn completely tax-free, at least five tax years must pass from the year of your first contribution - regardless of your age.

What does that mean in practice? Even if you're 60 and open a Roth IRA today, fully tax-free withdrawals of earnings wait until you're 65. The clock doesn't ask your age. It counts from the first contribution.

And here's the takeaway that matters most: that clock is worth starting as early as possible. Even with a symbolic amount. Even a hundred dollars. Because the first contribution - however small - starts a timer that then works entirely in your favor.

Five years will pass either way. The only question is whether your clock will already be ticking.

Want to see how this works in your case? Let's talk.

Two retirement accounts. Two completely different tax paths. Which one is right for you?
The Traditional IRA is the road most people know: you contribute money before taxes, lower today's tax bill, and the account grows for years. The IRS waits patiently β€” and claims its share with every withdrawal in retirement.
The Roth IRA reverses that order. You pay the tax right away, on the amount you contribute. In return, everything the account earns over the years β€” and everything you withdraw in retirement - remains entirely yours.
Which one is better? That depends on a single question: are your taxes higher today, or will they be higher tomorrow?
If you pay less today than you're likely to pay in retirement β€” Roth tends to come out ahead. If it's the other way around β€” Traditional may win. And here's the most interesting part: you don't have to choose just one path. Many of our clients hold both accounts side by side β€” and it's the proportions between them that make the biggest difference.
This choice deserves a calculation, not a coin flip.
Want to see how the numbers look for you? Let's talk.

What if there were an account whose retirement withdrawals are completely tax-free?

No, this is not a marketing trick. It's the Roth IRA - a retirement account that works in reverse of everything you're used to.

In a traditional retirement account, you contribute money before taxes, and the IRS waits patiently for its share - claiming it with every withdrawal in retirement.

The Roth IRA flips this. You pay tax today, on the amount you contribute. And then - done. Everything the account earns over the years, and everything you withdraw in retirement, is yours. Entirely. The IRS has nothing left to add.

No taxes on growth. No taxes on withdrawals. And - surprising to many - no forced withdrawals for as long as you live.

Sounds too good? That's exactly why the details matter - the limits, the rules, the conditions. We'll be covering them all September long.

And if you want to check whether a Roth IRA makes sense in your situation - let's talk.

You want to help your grandchildren with college - but do you know how to do it wisely?

September is National College Savings Month. And it's a good moment for a conversation that comes up in many Polish-American homes: grandparents want to contribute to their grandchildren's education. From the heart. From pride. From the belief that education is the finest gift you can give.

And it is beautiful. But how you help can change more than most people realize.

A 529 plan opened by grandparents works differently than one opened by parents - including in the eyes of colleges calculating financial aid. Paying tuition directly bypasses certain tax limitations. And help that strains your own retirement plan can turn out to be the most expensive gift of all.

Because you can borrow for college. You cannot borrow for retirement.

If this conversation is happening in your family right now - it's worth seeing the full picture first. We'll help you build it: so that helping your grandchildren and protecting your own peace of mind never have to compete.

When did you last look inside your 401(k) - not at the balance, but really look?

Today is National 401(k) Day - established on the first Friday after Labor Day. The symbolism is deliberate: you start the week with Labor Day and end it with retirement.

And that ending is exactly what's worth thinking about today.

Because most people have a 401(k) - and know almost nothing about it. An allocation set years ago, on the day they signed their employment paperwork. A beneficiary named in a previous decade of life. A contribution rate they meant to "sort out properly someday."

Meanwhile, this account is, for many people, the single largest asset they will ever build - bigger than a car, sometimes comparable to a house.

It deserves more than one glance a year.

Check three things today: how much you contribute and whether you're capturing the full employer match, what the money is actually invested in, and who is listed as your beneficiary.

Fifteen minutes. Three answers. One day a year that can genuinely change something.

There are questions people ask their financial advisors.

And there are questions they carry alone - the ones that surface at odd hours, when the numbers don't quite add up the way they should, and there's no one obvious to ask.

Those are the questions the show is built around.

Not market predictions. Not generic rules about what percentage to save. The specific, complicated, deeply personal questions that don't have a universal answer - because the answer depends entirely on your situation.

Dariusz has been having these conversations for over seventeen years. Hundreds of questions carefully worked through together - and that's the best reason the show exists at all.
