The IRS has released a draft of its 2027 Household Employer’s Tax Guide (Publication 926).
💰 Key update: If you pay a household employee $3,100 or more in 2027, you may be required to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes.
You may also have obligations involving:
✅ Federal unemployment taxes (FUTA)
✅ Schedule H (Form 1040)
✅ W-2 reporting
✅ Federal and state payroll compliance
⚠️ Paying someone in cash does NOT automatically eliminate your tax responsibilities!
