🚨 FRIENDLY TAX REMINDER!

Today, September 15th, is the deadline to make your Q3 estimated tax payment for 2026! 💰📅

If you’re self-employed, a business owner, or have income that doesn’t have enough taxes withheld, estimated tax payments may apply to you. The IRS can assess an underpayment penalty if you don’t pay enough throughout the year.

💻 Need to make your payment? You can do it right through your IRS Online Account:

1️⃣ Log in to your IRS Individual Online Account
2️⃣ Select Make a Payment
3️⃣ Choose Estimated Tax as the payment type
4️⃣ Select 2026 as the tax year
5️⃣ Enter your payment amount and bank information
6️⃣ Review everything carefully and submit your payment
7️⃣ Save your confirmation for your records!

The IRS Online Account also allows you to view your payment history and pending or scheduled payments.

👉

Pay your taxes. Get your refund status. Find IRS forms and answers to tax questions. We help you understand and meet your federal tax responsibilities.

One thing I wish more people understood: taxes are something you should learn about BEFORE you have a tax problem.

Too many of us were never taught how taxes actually work.

We weren’t taught about withholding.
We weren’t taught about estimated tax payments.
We weren’t taught what happens when we start a business or become self-employed.
We weren’t taught what deductions actually mean.
And we definitely weren’t taught what to do when that IRS notice shows up in the mail.

So what happens?

We start making more money but don’t adjust our withholding.

We start a business and spend everything we make without putting money aside for taxes.

We don’t file because we can’t afford to pay.

Then one year turns into two or three, penalties and interest start adding up, and suddenly we’re dealing with a tax problem that could have been prevented.

Tax education matters.

You don’t have to become a tax professional, but you SHOULD understand how taxes affect your money.

Know what’s coming out of your paycheck.
Know what changes when you become self-employed.
Know when estimated payments may be required.
Know the difference between owing taxes and not filing at all.
And please—open your IRS notices. 😂

I’ve seen firsthand how much stress can be avoided when people become proactive instead of reactive with their taxes.

And if you’ve already made mistakes? It’s not too late to fix them.

File the returns. Address the balance. Make the payment arrangement. Ask for help when you need it.

You can’t change what you didn’t know yesterday, but you can educate yourself today and make different decisions moving forward.

Financial literacy includes tax literacy. 💛

Friendly reminder that September 15th is an important tax deadline!

If you make estimated tax payments, your Q3 estimated tax payment is due September 15th.

September 15th is also the extended filing deadline for calendar-year S Corporation and Partnership tax returns.

If you still need to file or have questions about your estimated tax payments, now is the time to get everything taken care of before the deadline.

Got a letter from the IRS?

Seeing IRS on an envelope can make anyone nervous. In my experience as a tax practitioner, and from talking with clients, I’ve noticed that many people see an IRS notice and immediately put it aside because they’re afraid of what it might say. But that is often the biggest mistake you can make.

An IRS notice does not automatically mean you did something wrong or that the IRS is correct. And just because you owe a balance does not mean the IRS can collect immediately. The IRS must follow a process, and the letters you receive usually tell you what stage you are in, when it is time to act, and whether you have time to understand your options and figure out what to do next.

Before you respond or send any payment, take a moment to:

🔎 Identify the notice or letter number
📅 Check the tax year or period
⏰ Find the response deadline
📄 Read and understand exactly what the IRS is saying
💰 Verify the amount before paying anything
⚖️ Know whether you have appeal or response rights

Most importantly: DON’T IGNORE THE NOTICE.

Some IRS notices are simply informational. Others require action, and missing a deadline could limit your options. Even if you are worried about what the letter says, opening it and understanding the deadline gives you a chance to respond before the situation moves further through the collection process.

As an Enrolled Agent, I help taxpayers understand what the IRS is saying, review their IRS account, and determine the best next step.

One thing I saw this tax season that’s costing people thousands? S-Corps.

Because this tax season?
I had at least 5 people come to me with S-Corps and no idea what they actually signed up for.

Like… no payroll set up
Not paying themselves
Never heard of “reasonable compensation”

Just “my accountant told me to do it” 😩

And don’t get me wrong—
S-Corps can be a GREAT strategy when it makes sense.

But it’s not something you just elect and forget about.

There’s real responsibility that comes with it:
You have to run payroll
You have to pay yourself properly
You have to stay compliant

And if you don’t?
That’s where the problems (and extra costs) start coming in.

I’m not saying don’t become an S-Corp…
I’m saying make sure you actually understand why you’re doing it and what comes with it.

Because the goal isn’t just to “save on taxes”
It’s to do things the RIGHT way and actually benefit from it.

If you have an S-Corp right now and you’re like “wait…” 👀
You might want to get it reviewed.
