💡One recommendation I frequently make to clients: Don’t overlook the importance of building a Taxable Investment Account!

The word taxable often scares clients and I see so many people that are only focused on investing in their retirement accounts.

But the reality is that a taxable brokerage account can be one of the most flexible and tax-efficient accounts in your financial plan when used strategically.

Here’s why:

âś… Favorable tax rates: Long-term capital gains and qualified dividends may be taxed at lower rates than ordinary income. By contrast, savings account interest and distributions from Traditional 401(k)s and IRAs are generally taxed at ordinary income rates.

âś… Flexibility: Access your money anytime without early withdrawal penalties and choose when to realize capital gains.

âś… Tax-loss harvesting: Ability to offset capital gains with investment losses to reduce your tax bill.

âś… Estate planning benefits: Appreciated investments may receive a step-up in cost basis at death, potentially reducing or eliminating capital gains taxes for heirs.

âś… Control over retirement income: Choose when and how much to sell to manage taxable income. In lower-income years, you may be able to realize long-term capital gains at a 0% federal tax rate.

Don’t let the word “taxable” scare you. And don’t assume that because an account offers a tax deduction today, it’s automatically the most tax-efficient choice in the long run.

We help clients determine which buckets to fill, when to fill them, and how to make their money work more efficiently for them.

💡 Many people focus exclusively on investing in their 401(k), assuming it’s the most tax-efficient strategy.

But there’s more to consider.

Traditional 401(k)s and IRAs provide valuable tax deferral. However, contributions and investment growth are generally taxed as ordinary income when withdrawn. That means decades of compounding can eventually translate into substantial taxable income in retirement.

You’ll also generally be required to take minimum distributions from these accounts once you reach the applicable age, whether you need the money or not. Those distributions can increase your taxable income and potentially push more of your income into higher tax brackets.

And for many non-spouse beneficiaries who inherit a Traditional IRA or 401(k), inherited balances are generally subject to ordinary income tax as distributions are taken, often within a 10-year window.

The point isn’t that these accounts are bad, but that relying on just one account type can limit your flexibility and create unnecessary tax burdens in retirement.

A well-designed financial plan considers which buckets you fill, in what order, and how those decisions affect your taxes today, throughout retirement, and for the next generation.

Did you know? đź’ˇ

đź’°$1,000,000 in a high-yield savings account 10 years ago: about $1,280,000 today.

The same $1,000,000 in the S&P 500: about $4,180,000 — a $2.9 million gap.

And with prices up ~40% over that stretch, the $1,280,000 actually buys less than the original $1,000,000 did.

Retirement can last 30 years. Cash sitting still isn't the safe choice — it's the one that quietly runs out. Investing isn't about chasing returns; it's about making what you've built last as long as you need it to.

The market wasn't a straight line — it dropped 18% in 2022, and you had to sit through it. That's where a strategic allocation comes in: the right strategy lets you stay invested instead of selling during downturns.

Cash has a big job in that allocation — emergencies and near-term plans. Funding the next 30+ years just isn't one of them.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. Figures are Oct 2016–Oct 2026, dividends reinvested, pre-tax; the S&P 500 is an index, not directly investable.

An incredible foundation making such a meaningful difference in our community!

Join us as we strive to raise recognition about a week of national awareness that is more than deserving. As a society we need to do better to prevent tragedies that are 100% preventable. It comes down to choices made behind the wheel and preventative training. We believe in empowering teen drivers to take responsibility and embrace what they can do to create change and save lives.

An incredible foundation making such a meaningful difference in our community!

During the October 6 meeting, the Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing October 18-24 as National Teen Driver Safety Week in Coweta County. This recognition was given to the parents of Abby, who founded Abby’s Angel Foundation in her memory.

National Teen Driver Safety Week raises awareness about the leading causes of teen driver crashes and promotes safer driving behaviors. The observance serves as a reminder of the importance of avoiding distractions, wearing seatbelts, obeying traffic laws and making safe decisions behind the wheel to help keep everyone safe.

The Social Security Administration announced Wednesday that Social Security benefits will increase by 3.6% in 2027, up from a 2.8% increase in 2026. The adjustment is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index, which measures inflation by comparing prices from July through September with prices during the same period the previous year.

One Year of FamilyRoot Wealth! 🎉

It’s officially been one year since we welcomed our first client to FamilyRoot Wealth! I can’t believe how much has happened in such a short time.

When I left my old firm, I made a bet on a simple idea: if I focused on giving great advice, providing exceptional service, and always putting my clients’ best interests first, everything else would fall into place.

A year later, I’m incredibly grateful to see that belief becoming reality.

The most rewarding part has been hearing from so many clients about the value they've found in our work together—whether that’s having a clearer plan, feeling more confident about retirement, or simply knowing they have someone in their corner to call when they need guidance. That’s exactly what I hoped to create when I started the firm, and it means a great deal to hear that it’s making a difference.

FamilyRoot Wealth is growing the way I hoped it would: through real relationships and word of mouth, with the support of clients, friends, and family who have believed in me.

To everyone who has trusted me, referred someone, or simply cheered me on along the way - thank you!

I’m grateful for everything this first year has brought, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead. We’re just getting started!

Pay yourself first.
Treat investing like a bill.
Every month, invest before you start spending.
It’s not, “I’ll save whatever is left over.”
It’s, “I’ll save first, then spend what’s left.”
It may mean saying no to some things today.
Build the habit. Make the sacrifice now.
Your future self will be glad you did.
