SAVE THE DATE! 🥪❤️

Our annual and largest outreach event of the year is coming up!

We love serving our community because Jesus modeled what it means to care for others, meet needs, and love people well. This year, our goal is to give out over 1,000 sandwiches, and be a hub to provide valuable resources and support to our community.

Want to donate or partner with us? Send us a message!

Looking to volunteer and serve alongside us? We’d love to have you. Send us a message to get involved!

Together, we can make an impact, one sandwich and one person at a time. 🙌🏽

As we reflect on June, we're taking a moment to reflect on the power of partnership.

One of last month's highlights was our Rise & Organize Community Action Breakfast, where the four Urban League affiliates of New Jersey (Urban League of Union County, Inc., Urban League of Essex County, Urban League of Hudson County, and The Urban League of Greater Philadelphia) came together with community leaders, advocates, and changemakers to discuss how we can continue advancing our shared mission through collaboration. The program featured a panel with each affiliate's President & CEO, words from New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale Caldwell, keynote remarks from Terrence Woodbury of HIT Strategies, and a national perspective from The National Urban League Marc H. Morial, and SVP of Equitable Justice & Strategic Initiatives, Jerika Richardson.

Working together allows us to amplify our impact. While each affiliate serves its own community, we are united by a common purpose: creating pathways to opportunity, strengthening families, expanding economic mobility, and advocating for the communities we serve. When we coordinate our efforts across New Jersey and beyond, we can share ideas, resources, and strategies that help all of our communities thrive.

Thank you to our fellow affiliate leaders & staff, our distinguished speakers, our community partners, vendors, and every attendee who invested their time and voice in this important conversation. Your commitment reminds us that meaningful change happens when we work together.

As we look ahead, we encourage you to stay connected—not only with the Urban League of Union County, Inc., but with each of our affiliate organizations. Follow our pages, attend events, learn about the programs and services available in your community, and discover how you can get involved.

Together, we rise. Together, we organize. Together, we win.

📚💙 The conversation about literacy continues.

In Part 2 of our conversation from the Newark Literacy Fair, My Schools Newark’s Crystal Williams continues speaking with Vivian Cox Frazier, Founder and CEO of the Urban League of Essex County, about the importance of addressing literacy challenges in our community.

📊 Vivian discusses the importance of helping parents understand the test scores their children receive twice a year, ask questions, and use that information to advocate for their children’s educational needs.

🤝 She also speaks about the need for accountability and action when students are struggling, emphasizing the Urban League’s commitment to being part of the solution and helping families better understand their children’s progress.

📝 She reflects on seeing young people enter the workforce without some of the literacy skills needed to complete something as fundamental as a job application—a reminder that literacy can have an impact far beyond the classroom. And in an age where AI and technology are rapidly changing how we learn and work, she emphasizes that strong literacy skills are more important than ever.

🎥 Take a listen to Part 2 of this important conversation, and stay tuned as we continue sharing voices from the Newark Literacy Fair.
