Hi friends,
I wanted to share information on relief available for taxpayers & small businesses related to Covid-19 (Corona Virus).

1) Wage replacement, such as reimbursements for certain employee expenses are typically taxable to the employee. However, under Sec139, certain expenses relevant to the Covid-19 outbreak (such as child care due to school closures, housing, or medical expenses) can be deductible to the employer, while the employee does NOT have to pick them up as income (tax free!)
2) NYC is providing relief to small business owners affected by Covid-19. The city is providing a grant to employers to cover 40% of the payroll costs for two months to help retain employees (must be able to demonstrate that Covid-19 caused at least a 25% decrease in revenue, must have fewer than 5 employees, and has been in operation for at least 6 months with no outstanding liens or judgements). The city is also providing zero interest loans to help mitigate losses in profits (similar qualifications except for the loan you can have up to 99 employees, but you have to demonstrate the ability to repay the loan).
3) If you owe money with the federal return, the IRS is giving you an extra 90 days to make a payment (for up to a million dollars for individuals and 10 million for corporations). AS OF NOW, YOU STILL HAVE TO FILE YOUR RETURN ON TIME (or apply for an automatic 6 months extension), but if you have a balance due with the return, you can hold off paying until July 15th. Kindly note, this relief is currently ONLY from the Internal Revenue Service.

Reach out with questions!

hey gang, I figured I'll keep you in the loop on a tax savings opportunity (must be postmarked today if you want to take advantage of it). See the scoop below. Reach out if you need anything!

Details:
In response to the new regulations that limit your itemized deductions towards your State & Local withholdings, New York came out with its own regulations that will allow you to donate your estimated payments towards New York as a charitable contribution in 2018 and you will get an 85% credit towards your 2019 taxes.

Unfortunately, the IRS literally just proposed new regulations that will effectively disallow this contribution effective August 28th, which effectively means that if you want to take advantage of this, you MUST ACT TODAY.

Immediate Action Required (must be postmarked today!)
If you anticipate itemizing your deductions in 2018, consider making a charitable contribution today (not to exceed your estimated 2019 tax liability towards NY).

The check should be made payable to the ‘State Treasurer’ and the memo line should say either ‘Health Charitable Account’ or ‘Elementary and Secondary Education Amount’ (your choice). Please mail to

New York State Treasurer
DIVISION OF THE TREASURY
P.O. BOX 22119
ALBANY NY 12201-2119

THIS MUST BE IN THE MAIL AND POSTMARKED TODAY! (AUG 27th)
