On this day in 1981, Sandra Day O'Connor was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice by the U.S. Senate with a vote of 99-0. In her first year on the Court she received over 60,000 letters from the public, more than any other justice in history. Sandra Day O'Connor served on the Supreme Court from September 25, 1981 until January 31, 2006.

This day July 24th in 1897 commemorates the birth of Amelia Earhart. Amelia Mary Earhart was an American aviation pioneer and author, and the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Amelia disappeared on July 2, 1937 during an attempted flight around the world.
