IRS reminds us in IR-2026-44 Tax Tip 2024-30 that to avoid late payment penalties and related interest, there is still time to file their federal income tax return electronically and request direct deposit for any refund due. That individuals who cannot file their tax return by April 15, 2026 can request an automatic extension of time to file on Form 4868. An extension to file is not an extension to pay; taxpayers must estimate and pay any taxes owed by the deadline April 15, 2026 deadline to avoid late payment penalties and interest.

The IRS reminds us with the issuance of IR-2025-114 that with the OBBBA Act set to take effect Jan 1, 2025 new starting Jan 1, 2025 is the availability for taxpayers to Avoid US income tax on Tip income on certain listed occupations only for the Tip Deduction and Overtime Income, through a deduction of up to $25,000 on Tips and for Overtime Pay $12,500 or $25,000 for married filing joint filers, for both Itemizers or those using the Standard Deduction though 2028, where the deduction begins to phase out when MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income) exceeds $150,000 or $300,00 for married filing joint filers. https://bit.ly/4lAii9t
