The greatest thing that money can be used for is for it to free yourself from living up to the expectations of others. Sure, it does also produce some eccentric billionaires, but for the rest of us, it means that you don't need to seek validation from the world, to live life. That's wealth. When others talk about being rich I talk about being wealthy and it's not the same thing. You can be wealthy and not have the most money on earth. Ultimately it comes down to.... Are you living a life that is aligned with your values?

This is your mildly tiger Asian mom Shang 💸 early retirement + frugality telling you - your children want to feel accomplished. Our human brains are wired innately to seek a sense of satisfaction through work. So don't make life too easy. Help them do age appropriate challenging things. Only step in when there's real physical danger. Otherwise, teaching work ethic really means, your kids cannot have it easy. Don't give everything to them. If you do, I'm gonna end up coaching them how to change behaviors as adults and that's just harder on everyone.

Being nice doesn't cost you all that much effort but can get you a LOT in return.
Some of the random things I've gotten when I genuinely didn't expect it (most of this is travel related as that's really the main area where I spend)
- business class upgrade on a flight I won through a giveaway when technically I only qualified for economy
Long story this happened in 2014
- being able to visit the cockpit of a Boeing 747-400 and an Airbus 350-900
- corporate meeting space given to me for free
- platters of food / leftovers to take home because I stayed and helped
- toys, supplies, etc, for my kids
- babysitters who are literally willing to come at extremely odd hours to help me
- waived fees on certain financial transactions
- free tours of things
