If you’re sending money abroad, beware of a possible 1% excise tax. This new tax generally applies to transfers of cash, money orders or cashier’s checks from U.S. senders to foreign recipients via certain remittance transfer providers such as Western Union and MoneyGram. But transfers made via credit or debit card, bank account transfer, or digital wallet aren’t subject to the excise tax. Essentially, the tax doesn’t apply to transfers from accounts in financial institutions subject to Bank Secrecy Act requirements or to credit or debit cards issued in the U.S. So to avoid the extra expense, consider using a card or ACH transfer from your own bank account. “Should I Be an S-Corp or Stay an LLC?”
This is one of the most common questions we get from growing business owners.

It is often based on a big misunderstanding.
Many business owners think:
✅ LLC = one business type
✅ S-Corp = a different business type
But that's not exactly true.
An LLC is a legal STRUCTURE.
An S-Corp is a TAX ELECTION.
In many cases, your business can be both an LLC and taxed as an S-Corp.

So, why do owners consider an S-Corp?
The biggest potential benefit is self-employment tax savings.
As a standard LLC:
• Most profits are subject to self-employment taxes.
As an LLC taxed as an S-Corp:
• You pay yourself a reasonable salary.
• Additional profits may avoid self-employment taxes.
For the right business, that can create meaningful savings.

BUT S-Corps Aren't Automatically Better!
An S-Corp also creates more responsibilities:
⚠ Payroll requirements
⚠ Additional tax filings
⚠ More compliance obligations
⚠ Reasonable compensation rules
If profits aren't high enough, the added complexity may outweigh the benefit.
More complicated doesn't always mean more profitable.

Here are the real questions we ask...
• How much profit is the business generating?
• Are you consistently profitable?
• What are your growth plans?
• Will the tax savings exceed the added costs?
The right answer comes from the numbers, NOT a trend!

Our honest answer:
An S-Corp can be a great strategy, but it's not the right move for every business owner.

The best choice depends on your specific situation, profitability, and long-term goals.
Before making the switch, run the numbers!

How much should you budget for retirement expenses? One common guideline says 60% to 70% of your current income. Some expenses might decrease or disappear (commuting costs, mortgage payments), while others are likely to increase (health care, property taxes). Specificity, not to mention incorporating inflation into your calculation, is important. We can help — call us at (610) 767-9560.

It’s the fourth quarter, small business owners. That means, just like in a football game, you have limited time to make winning moves — in this case, to lower your taxes for 2026. Many year-end strategies require time to evaluate, implement and document properly. Waiting until the last minute may leave you with little choice but to punt and hope for the best. The sooner you begin planning, the more options you may have in your tax-saving playbook. Call us at (610) 767-9560 to huddle up and discuss a game plan tailored to your business.
