The 2027 Social Security numbers are out. The wage cap goes up to $192,300, so higher earners and their employers will pay a little more next year.

Self-employed? You pay both halves, so factor the new cap into your 2027 estimates.

The Social Security Administration announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 and increased the Social Security wage base to $192,300. The annual update also includes changes to retirement earnings limits and other indexed Social Security amounts that affect taxpayers and employers.

Does your family run a business where Mom and Dad are the general partners and the kids are listed as limited partners?

The federal appeals court that covers Louisiana just ruled that a limited partner can’t be the one managing or running the business. If the kids are running the day-to-day and signing the contracts, the old setup may not protect their share from self-employment tax anymore.

Audit season is underway for schools with a June 30 year end. When the report comes back, the most useful part for a board is often what the auditors observed about internal controls and grant compliance, not just the opinion on the statements.
