Charitable Donations Deductions for 2026?

For your 2026 tax return even individuals who do not itemize can deduct up to $1000 ($2000 for married taxpayers) for charitable donations!

Use the Tax Exempt Organization Search tool on IRS.gov (https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/search-for-tax-exempt-organizations) to find organizations which are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.

Clients should also:
- Keep proof of all donations including monetary gifts, or non-cash donations.
- The Organizations name that donations were made to.
- The date the contribution was made.
- Whether any goods or services were provided in exchange for the contribution(s).
- For non-monetary donations descriptions of the items/property and their fair market values should be retained.

Be advised there are special rules regarding large donations and certain types of property donations.
