Managing the finances of a high-net-worth household involves far more than paying routine bills. Multiple residences, household employees, private investments, charitable commitments, insurance policies, trusts, and business interests can generate hundreds of transactions across different accounts and legal entities.

Without a coordinated process, even straightforward financial tasks can become time-consuming and difficult to track.

Family office services are tailored to the family’s assets, priorities, and existing advisory relationships. A relatively simple arrangement may focus on bookkeeping, bill payment, and financial reporting. Because a family office provider may handle sensitive information and long-term responsibilities, families should consider:

▪️Experience with multi-entity accounting and financial reporting
▪️Services customized to the family’s actual needs
▪️Clearly documented roles and approval procedures
▪️Appropriate separation of financial responsibilities
▪️Strong confidentiality and information-handling practices
▪️Timely, accurate, and understandable reporting
▪️Effective communication with outside advisors
▪️The ability to expand services as the family’s needs change

The right provider should make the family’s financial life more organized and understandable while preserving the desired level of privacy and control.

🅰️: Even when it's not legally required, an audit does something a compilation or review can't. It puts a fully independent set of eyes on your financial statements and internal controls, and hands your board, donors, and grantors real assurance instead of just your word for it.

For many nonprofits, the audit isn't optional anyway. Illinois requires charities above certain revenue thresholds to file audited financial statements with the Attorney General's Charitable Trust Bureau, and most major grants and multi-year funding commitments require one as a condition of the award.

If your organization is approaching a revenue threshold, applying for a new grant, or just hasn’t had outside eyes on the books in a while, we're here to help. Call our office at (630) 819-6040

A collection of independent advisors may work well for a family while the number of accounts, entities, and transactions remains manageable. As the family’s financial life expands, however, several challenges may emerge, such as family members spending too much time on administrative tasks, financial information distributed across different systems, and different entities using inconsistent accounting procedures. A family office addresses these problems by establishing clear responsibilities, organized workflows, consistent accounting, and coordinated reporting. Sound like something you need? Call our office at (630) 819-6040.

Planning to make a charitable donation before year-end? Good recordkeeping now can save you a headache at tax time. A few essentials: confirm the organization is IRS-qualified before you give, keep a bank record or receipt for every cash gift, and get a written acknowledgment for any single donation of $250 or more. If you're donating property, hang on to records of its fair market value. Larger noncash gifts may also require Form 8283 and a qualified appraisal. And starting with tax year 2026, even taxpayers who don't itemize may be able to deduct up to $1,000 in cash donations ($2,000 for married couples filing jointly).

Questions about your specific situation? We're here to help. Call our office at (630) 819-6040.
