I am excited to welcome Alyssa Payne as our new Client Services Coordinator & Staff Bookkeeper at Sandy Dobson, CPA PC!

Alyssa is a Murphy High School graduate and holds a Bachelors degree from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Donna Payne of Brasstown.

She is also my daughter-in-law! Alyssa and my son, Zach Prather, have two children, Valley and Gio. After spending these early years at home with her children, she is beginning a new chapter with our office. She enjoys volunteering at school and supporting her children’s activities as an involved cheerleading mom.

Alyssa will be a welcoming face for our clients, helping with scheduling and client communications while also assisting with bookkeeping and tax preparation as we prepare for 2026 tax season.

I am happy to have her joining me in the business and look forward to our clients getting to know her.

BUSINESS OWNERS: October is a good time to plan for 2026 taxes.

I put together a short guide covering retirement plans, business reimbursements, and other tax planning ideas to consider before the year ends.

I am scheduling October tax planning appointments and accepting new business clients, including Sole proprietors, LLC and S corporation owners. Our office will be moving in December, so I am scheduling the main planning conversations earlier this year. We can still review final withholding in December if needed.

🎰 Did you receive a W-2G for gambling winnings in 2025?

There’s good news! North Carolina has changed its tax law in the last couple of days and now allows eligible gambling losses as an itemized deduction beginning with the 2025 tax year.

If you already filed your 2025 NC return and had gambling winnings and losses, your return may be worth another look. You could potentially qualify for an amended return and a refund.
