Own a C corporation with a January through December tax year and filed an extension earlier this year?

Your extended 2025 tax return is due October the 15th.

Before filing, review your income, expenses, bookkeeping, and any tax payments already made. Make sure everything is complete and reflected correctly on the return.

An extension gave your corporation more time to file. It didn’t extend the original deadline to pay any tax due.

Any loose ends in your return need attention before you file. Review the numbers carefully now so you’re less likely to deal with avoidable corrections later.

Before you file your extended tax return by October the 15th, compare your 1099s with your business records.

Your books may include income that never came with a 1099. You may also see a 1099 amount that looks different from what you recorded.

A 1099-K, for example, may show gross payments before certain fees are taken out.

Take a few minutes to compare the numbers and make sure all of your business income is accounted for before you file.

October the 15th is getting close. Before you sign and file your business tax return, take a few minutes to review it carefully.

Look at your income, business expenses, and estimated tax payments. Make sure the numbers match your records and ask about anything that looks off before you file.

Tax returns can be several pages long, but you still want to understand where the numbers came from.

Give your return one more careful review before October the 15th.

I help small business owners make sense of the accounting and tax side of running a business, without making it more complicated than it needs to be.

I’m Kim Clenney, a licensed CPA in Montgomery, Alabama.
