🚨 TAX TIP — LET’S CLEAR UP SOME TAX MYTHS! 🚨
🎯 More income does NOT automatically mean a bigger refund! Your refund depends on several factors, including your income, withholding, filing status, deductions, and tax credits.
🎯 Having a W-2 does NOT guarantee a refund! What matters is how much tax you owe compared with what was withheld and any credits/payments you qualify for.
🎯 A tax refund can come from taxes you overpaid AND certain refundable tax credits.
🎯 You do NOT need dependents to receive a tax refund. Taxpayers without children may still receive a refund depending on their withholding, payments, and eligibility for refundable credits.
🎯 Self-employed does NOT automatically mean you need dependents or a W-2. Self-employed individuals generally have to account for income tax and self-employment tax and may need to make estimated tax payments throughout the year.
🎯 1099 income usually has NO federal income tax withheld automatically. Depending on your income, expenses, payments, and credits, you could owe taxes when you file.
🎯 An adult CAN sometimes qualify as a dependent. The rules depend on factors such as age, relationship, residency, income, support, student status, and disability—not simply whether they’re over 18.
🎯 Married does NOT automatically mean a two-income household. Your refund or balance due depends on your household’s specific tax situation.
🎯 Receiving SSI does not automatically prevent you from filing taxes. However, income should be properly reported to the appropriate agencies because earned or other income may affect benefit eligibility or payment amounts.
💎 BOTTOM LINE:
A bigger income, W-2, 1099, marriage, or dependents alone DO NOT determine your refund. Every tax return is different!
