The IRS has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Isaias in Alabama that began on Oct. 7, 2026. These taxpayers now have until Feb. 4, 2027 to file various federal individual and business tax returns, and make tax payments.

This new deadline applies to individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2025 individual income tax return. Because tax payments related to these 2025 returns were due on April 15, 2026, those payments are not eligible for this relief.

Penalties on payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after Oct. 7, 2026, and before Oct. 22, 2026, will be abated as long as the tax deposits are made by Oct. 22, 2026.

The Feb. 4, 2027 deadline also applies to affected quarterly payroll and certain excise tax returns normally due on Nov. 2, 2026:

TAX FILING UPDATE — MOBILE COUNTY
October 12, 2026, 10:00 a.m. CDT

The IRS has not yet announced Hurricane Isaias filing deadline relief for Mobile County. October 15, 2026 remains the deadline for taxpayers with a valid extension to file their 2025 federal individual income tax returns, unless they qualify for other relief.

Historically, the IRS has postponed filing deadlines following hurricanes for taxpayers in designated disaster areas. For example, Hurricane Helene relief covered all of Alabama and moved the October 15, 2024 extended filing deadline to May 1, 2025.

On October 11, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) urged governors of affected states to submit written requests to Treasury for disaster tax relief. A law enacted in 2025 allows the IRS to grant relief for qualifying state-declared disasters through this process. A governor’s disaster declaration alone does not establish that relief.

Mobile County is included in the federal emergency declaration, but an IRS postponement has not yet been confirmed. Please continue providing your remaining tax information to our office so we can complete your return.
