Do you find yourself dreaming of the next raise or the next promotion? I often thought: “once I reach the next promotion I’ll never have to worry about money again”
Then I’d get the promotion, and think “once I hit the NEXT level I’ll never worry about money again”. On and on I went. Then I stopped one day and thought: “what if I just invest, pay down debt, and go against the grain?” It was that last thought that made me free.

HOW ARE PEOPLE AFFORDING LIFE RIGHT NOW?!

I saw someone talking about paying nearly $3,000 a month for a ONE-BEDROOM apartment.

That’s $36,000 a year. Just for rent.

And then I started digging into the numbers.

According to Harvard’s 2026 rental housing report:

• 49% of American renters spend more than 30% of their income on housing.

• 12.1 MILLION renter households spend more than HALF their income on rent and utilities.

• In Florida, the situation is even worse. Nearly 60% of renters are considered housing-cost burdened.

Think about that for a second.

We’re constantly telling people to save 20% of their income, invest for retirement, build an emergency fund, and avoid debt.

And I believe in ALL of those things.

But how is someone supposed to do that when housing alone takes 40%, 50%, or even more of their paycheck?

Then add groceries, car insurance, electricity, healthcare, and everything else.

I’m genuinely curious.

What are people paying for rent these days, and what city are you in?

I used to think the goal was to make as much money as possible.

Now I realize there’s another way to get ahead financially.

Need LESS money to live.

When we paid off our last debt in 2022, something interesting happened.

We didn’t suddenly become millionaires overnight.

But we eliminated a $1,610 monthly payment.

That’s $19,320 a year we no longer needed to earn just to keep a roof over our heads.

And when you start eliminating those payments, something changes.

You stop needing every raise.
You stop chasing every promotion.
You stop feeling quite so dependent on your next paycheck.

Eventually, you realize that having fewer financial obligations can be just as powerful as having a bigger income.

I’m not saying paying off debt early is always the mathematically optimal decision.

But I can tell you this:

Having fewer payments gave me something a bigger paycheck never could. More control over my time.

Would you rather earn an extra $20,000 a year or eliminate $20,000 in annual payments?

Someone on YouTube called me an idiot today.

So naturally, I thanked them. And gave their comment a heart. ❤️🤣

Here’s something I’ve learned about handling hate comments on the internet:

When you stop taking yourself so seriously, strangers lose a whole lot of power over your happiness.

You can’t insult someone who is already laughing at themselves.

Want to call me an idiot? Dumb? Clueless?

Buddy, GET IN LINE. 😂

I’m the FIRST person who will agree with you.

And here’s the best part…

You don’t even know the HALF of it. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH THIS GUY! 🤣

Seriously though, there’s something incredibly freeing about not needing to defend yourself against every stranger’s opinion.

Not every comment deserves your energy.

Sometimes the healthiest response is to laugh, say thank you, and move on with your day.

Life’s too short to let someone with a keyboard ruin your mood.

Things are getting expensive, but you can lower these 4 bills today! Internet, cellphone, car insurance, and medical bills all have negotiation potential.

Stop keeping your money in your bank's savings account! Mine only paid me 0.01% (even worse!) A high-yield savings account gives you the same FDIC protection (if you choose the right one), and offers 3%-5% interest rates!!

Check out my top picks on high-yield savings accounts today: https://sharpemoney.com/go/hysa

There's a guy at my daughter’s dance class who drives a Camry with a cracked windshield. And he still hasn't gotten around to fixing it…for the last two years.

The mind blowing thing? Turns out he sold a business in his forties and hasn't worked since. Nobody at the dance studio would have guessed it, because he doesn't look like what we've been trained to picture when we picture wealthy.
