🎉 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🍺😂

🚨 DID YOU KNOW?!

A GAS STATION OWNER ONCE GOT A TAX DEDUCTION FOR GIVING AWAY FREE B**R?! 🤯💰

Back in the 1970s, an Oklahoma gas station owner decided to try a VERY unusual marketing strategy…

Instead of giving customers promotional stamps, he offered them FREE B**R! 🍺😂

And guess what?!

🚗 Customers came rolling in!

📈 Business increased!

💰 And when the IRS questioned the expenses… HE TOOK THEM TO TAX COURT!

HE WON! 🏆

The court ruled that his documented b**r purchases qualified as legitimate business promotional expenses!

😂 Talk about taking customer appreciation to a whole new level!

💡 KDM TIP: Not all business expenses are as obvious as office supplies and equipment. Some surprising purchases can qualify for deductions when there's a legitimate business purpose and the tax rules allow them.

⚠️ Tax laws have changed since this 1982 ruling, so don't assume free drinks are automatically deductible today. 😉

What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that we haven’t even been open for a full year yet.

We opened KDM Financial Services–North Iowa with the goal of building something local, personal, and trustworthy — and the support we’ve received from this community has been incredible.

Iowa parents: SAVE THOSE RECEIPTS! 🧾

Did you know Iowa offers a Tuition and Textbook Tax Credit for qualifying K–12 education expenses?

And despite the name, it can cover a LOT more than just textbooks!

Qualifying expenses may include:

🏫 Tuition paid to qualifying Iowa K–12 schools
🎒 Required backpacks
✏️ Required pencils, pens & school supplies
📓 Notebooks & folders
🧮 Calculators
💻 Computers & flash drives if required
⚽ Certain school athletic fees, uniforms & equipment
🎺 Certain band and extracurricular expenses
🚗 Driver's education fees
📚 Other qualifying educational expenses

Iowa's credit is 25% of the first $2,000 in qualifying expenses per dependent — potentially up to a $500 Iowa tax credit per child!

So whether you're writing a tuition check or filling a cart with school supplies this week, keep those receipts and your school's required supply list. They could come in handy at tax time! 💰

🤪 Whacky Wednesday Tax Fact:

💰 Did you know the IRS once ruled that a pet cat could be tax deductible?

Not as a pet-but as a working animal.

If a cat is kept at a business (such as a warehouse, farm, or junkyard) primarily to control mice or rats, the costs of its food and care may qualify as an ordinary and necessary business expense.

🐈 So yes... a "professional mouser" can potentially earn its keep! 😂

💼 The key: The cat must genuinely serve a business purpose. Your couch potato at home doesn't qualify.
