Turns out a “great fall” isn’t always a bad thing.
Here’s to enjoying the season and having a financial plan sturdy enough for the occasional tumble. 🍁

Here are simple ways to get started.

What do you want your wealth to make possible?

We often think about that question in terms of our own lives: retirement, travel, helping our children, or simply having more freedom and flexibility. It can include the causes and communities we care about, too.

Giving doesn’t have to begin after you reach a certain level of wealth, and it doesn’t have to mean making one significant gift. It can be something you approach intentionally over time, just as you would other parts of your financial life.

As women continue to build and inherit wealth, we have an opportunity to think not only about what we want that wealth to provide for us, but also what we want it to make possible for others.

What role does 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 play in your financial plan?

In the latest episode of 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 & 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩, Regina McCann Hess sits down with Allison Fine, President and CEO of Every.org, to talk about philanthropy and how people can be more intentional about supporting the causes that matter to them.

Their conversation explores how women can think about giving as they build and inherit wealth, ways families can involve the next generation, and how technology is making it easier to donate different types of assets to nonprofit organizations.

But this conversation isn’t only about money. Allison also shares lessons from her own experience with leadership, and what she hopes greater freedom and flexibility will look like in retirement.

It’s a thoughtful conversation about using our resources with purpose, both for the future we want to create and the difference we want to make.

Executive leadership coach Lynell Shattls knows firsthand what it feels like to give work everything you have.

Earlier in her career, she was the person everyone could count on to be there all day, all evening, and all weekend. After experiencing burnout and losing her oldest sister to cancer, her perspective began to change.

Now she encourages her clients not to wait until retirement to find the things that bring them joy. It’s a message that fits beautifully with the conversations Regina McCann Hess has every day about retirement.

Preparing for the future matters, but that doesn’t mean we have to postpone everything meaningful until someday.

Just when you think you’re finished… life has a way of adding something else to the pile. 🍂

Good thing financial planning isn’t a one-and-done project either. A little regular maintenance can help keep your plan ready for whatever blows in next.

What are we actually planning for?

Retirement planning often starts with numbers: 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘐 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘥? 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦? 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵?

Those are important questions. But we think there’s another one worth asking: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯?

In a recent conversation between Regina McCann Hess and guest Lynell Shattls, it was a good reminder of that. They talked about burnout, boundaries, joy, and what can happen when we spend years believing we’ll finally make time for ourselves “someday.”

Financial planning can help us prepare for the future, but it can also help us make intentional choices about the life we’re living now.

Maybe the goal isn’t to postpone everything we want until retirement. Maybe it’s to build a life with more of what matters along the way.
