If you’ve been to the office in person, you have met our office dog, Gilhooley. People love how he greets everyone at the door like a little gentleman and enthusiastically escorts you to your chair in an office.
Last night, he sustained a spine injury and underwent emergency surgery. The GREAT surgeons at Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists were able to literally get him back on his feet and it seems he will make a brilliant recovery, if not just very slowly.
We are eternally grateful for the surgeon’s urgency and skill in correcting Gilhooley’s spine injury. Hopefully you all will see him back soon, with just a slight limp.
Also, Katie and Sarah, you guys are life savers and a best friend for helping Gilhooley when he needed you most! Katie, your business is so very appropriately named- Almost Home Boarding and Training

Have a great holiday weekend and stay safe! 🧨

🧓💵 New Senior Deduction Under OBBBA — What Seniors Should Know

If you’re 65 or older, you could qualify for a valuable new tax break in 2025. Thanks to the OBBBA, eligible seniors may claim an extra $6,000 deduction ($12,000 for married couples filing jointly) — even if you don’t itemize.

✅ Who Qualifies
Must be age 65 or older by the end of the tax year.
Must file under a status other than “Married Filing Separately.”
Must have a valid Social Security Number on the return.

🧮 How It Works
You get the deduction on top of the standard deduction (or even if you itemize).
For single seniors, that’s an additional $6,000; for married couples (both 65+), $12,000.

⚠️ Income Limits & Phase-Outs
Full benefit for those with lower/moderate income: single filers with MAGI up to $75,000, married couples up to $150,000.
The deduction phases out gradually above those thresholds.

📩 Need help figuring out if you qualify or how this affects your situation? Drop us a message or schedule a consultation. We’re ready to help make your 2025 filing as easy as possible.

How Giving Tuesday can work in your tax plan.

If you’ve been considering making a charitable gift, 2025 is an especially important year to do it.

Beginning in the 2026 tax year, itemizers who make charitable contributions will face new limits:
🔹 You’ll only be able to deduct charitable gifts to the extent they exceed 0.5% of your AGI.
🔹 For example, a couple with $300,000 AGI will only be able to deduct contributions above $1,500.
🔹 Corporations will face a similar rule, with deductions allowed only for charitable giving that exceeds 1% of taxable income.

✨ In other words: the deductions you’re used to may be reduced in the future—so giving now provides greater tax value.

Your contribution supports the organizations doing incredible work and may offer meaningful tax benefits under the current rules.

📝 “No Tax on Tips” — What You Need to Know (And What to Keep 👇)

If you work in a tipped profession — service staff, hospitality, rideshare, salons, etc. — you might benefit from the new “no tax on tips” provision under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Here’s the lowdown:

✅ What changed
For 2025 through 2028, eligible workers can claim an above-the-line deduction for qualifying tips — up to $25,000 per return. That could mean lower federal taxable income — which may reduce what you owe or increase your refund.

📄 What counts — and how to document it
Only “qualified tips,” earned in occupations recognized by the IRS as tip-eligible, are covered. Tip income still must be reported correctly. Whether you receive cash tips or credit-card tips shared through a tip pool, they must be recorded and reported per normal IRS tip-income rules.

⚠️ What to watch out for
“No tax on tips” applies to federal income tax only — payroll taxes (Social Security, Medicare) and possibly state/local taxes still apply.

If you get tipped income and want to make sure you claim the deduction properly, we’re here for you. Let’s make your 2025 tax return work in your favor.
