2. The Famous "Barefoot" Legend
There is a famous historical anecdote that India qualified for the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil but withdrew because FIFA refused to let them play barefoot. While it is true that many Indian players preferred playing barefoot at the time (and did so during the 1948 Olympics), the main reasons for withdrawing were actually travel costs, a lack of preparation time, and the AIFF prioritizing the Olympics over the World Cup at the time.
